The defect: 4-Star Trailers, Inc. (4-Star Trailers) is recalling certain 2019 4S8D337 and 4S4D258LQ trailers equipped with Dexter axles. The axles may lack the proper amount of grease on the inner and outer bearings in the hubs.
The risk: The ungreased axle bearings may result in a wheel locking up, affecting the vehicle handling and increasing the risk of crash.
The remedy: All owners were notified and the trailers were corrected, free of charge. The recall began January 14, 2020. Owners may contact Dexter customer service at 1-574-295-7888 or 4-Star Trailers customer service at 1-800-848-3095 or 1-405-324-7827.

The contact owns a 2019 4-Star Horse Trailer. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the rear wheel on the driver’s of the trailer detached from the axle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who replaced the wheel and the axle. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred two more times. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V661000 (Suspension); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300,000.

The contact owns a 2019 FCC RV. The contact stated while reviewing the trailer; he noticed transmission fluid leaking under the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The trailer was diagnosed three times as transmission cooler failure. The failure was repaired by a local mechanic and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 21,500.
