This site restructures public records. We have no information about your specific car, we are not mechanics or engineers, and we are not affiliated with any manufacturer or government agency. We cannot tell you whether a recall applies to your VIN, whether a symptom you are experiencing is a defect, what a repair should cost, or whether a vehicle is safe to drive. Please do not send us a full VIN — we do not need it.
If you have a safety problem with a vehicle
Report it to NHTSA, not to us. Owner reports filed with NHTSA are what trigger defect investigations and, in some cases, recalls — and they become part of the public record this site reads from. An email to us goes nowhere useful; we cannot forward a complaint on your behalf.
- Report a safety problem on NHTSA.gov
- Check whether an open recall covers your VIN — the only authoritative answer, and recall repairs are free.
- For anything urgent, contact your dealer or the manufacturer’s customer service line directly.
Before you write
A few questions are answered faster by a page than by email: methodology explains how the Vehicle Issue Index is calculated and why some vehicles show no score; data sources lists every dataset and how often it refreshes; privacy covers logging, cookies and VIN handling; and terms of use covers what this site is and is not for.
We read everything that arrives, but we are small and cannot promise a response time. A correction that includes the URL and the source record number gets fixed considerably faster than one that does not.
