2017 Audi A4 Allroad Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2017 Audi A4 Allroad, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

THE CAR WAS MOVING AT A VERY LOW SPEED WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AUTO LOCKS UP AND THE BRAKES ENGAGE, YOU HAVE TO STEP ON THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURS WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, MY GARAGE WHERE THERE IS NOTHING NEAR THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO AUDI 3 TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED AUDI USA NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS AGAIN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE . I CONTACTED AUDI'S EXECUTIVE OFFICES AS WELL.

WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN WET WEATHER AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE AT 70 TO 80 DEGREES F WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE PARKING BRAKE INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS UP REQUIRING A DANGEROUS AMOUNT OF THROTTLE TO BREAK IT LOOSE.

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW STOPPED FUNCTIONING. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN THE DOWN POSITION WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE OTHER WINDOWS STILL FUNCTION PROPERLY. MULTIPLE VEHICLE POWER CYCLES DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW DAYS IT JUST STARTED TO WORK, THE FIRST TIME. IT STILL DOES NOT WORK AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, THAT BEGAN EARLIER TODAY. DIDN'T MATTER IF THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING OR NOT, HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR A WHILE BUT NOT MOVING. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED THE DAY AFTER THE DEALER DELIVERED THE VEHICLE, IT CURRENTLY HAS 15XX MILES.

WHILE DRIVING WITH THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT LATCHED, I RECEIVED A WARNING/REMINDER TO FASTEN THE SEATBELT. AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS, THE CHIME AND WARNING MESSAGE STOPPED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE SEATBELT RECEPTACLE.

NHTSA ID 11084316 · filed Apr 10, 2018

SENSORS IN DRIVER SEAT FAILED, CAUSING THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO LIGHT, SIGNALING TO THE CAR THAT THE SEATBELT WAS NOT LATCHED. THIS WAS AN INCESSANT PROBLEM THROUGHOUT A DRIVE. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES, THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE DEALER ONLY RESET THE LIGHT. THIS LAST TIME, THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE DRIVERS SEAT.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN RAINY CONDITIONS. (DRIVING ACCORDING TO SPEED LIMIT) AND I SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL. THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL AND STARTED VEERING OUT OF THE LANE. IT THEN TURNED INTO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION INTO TRAFFIC AND EVENTUALLY SPUN TO A STOP.

NHTSA ID 10971541 · filed Apr 10, 2017

A FEW DAYS AGO I HAD AN ACCIDENT. I MADE A LEFT TURN ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY RAMP AT 42 MPH. THE ROAD WAS WET AND AUDI IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN ACTIVATED “PRECRASH SENSORS” AND BEGAN TO BRAKE HARD AND THE SYSTEM LOCKED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNCONTROLLABLE AND CRASHED THE FRONT WHEEL INTO THE HIGH CURB, WHICH DAMAGED THE WHEELS, RIM AND AXLES. THE AUDI EXCHANGE DEALERSHIP IN IL CHECKED AND THE SENSORS ARE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THEY CLAIMED THAT I IMAGINE THINGS THAT DO NOT EXIST AS THEY SAID IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CAR TO TAKE CONTROL AND TO BRAKE THE CAR. THEY ALSO SAID I DO NOT HAVE THESES FEATURE ON THE CAR, BUT THE CAR IS SO EQUIPPED WITH THIS TECHNOLOGY. ( BECAUSE MANY TIMES IT HAPPENED TO ME OUT OF THE CAR STARTED TO BRAKE WITHOUT A REASON TO BRAKE, WHEN I TRIED TO GO AROUND BIKERS AT THE SAFE DISTANCE, OR WHEN PARKING. WHEN I MADE THE COMPLAINT IN THE AUDI DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE, AND LAUGHED IN JUNE). I AM AWARE THAT I WAS MOVING FAST BUT FROM MY EXPERIENCE I KNOW THAT I COULD DO THIS TURN WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. PREVIOUSLY I OWNED A 2013 BMW 528 XDRIVE AND THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES SLIP ON THE SNOW AND I COULD CONTROL THE CAR STILL. I BELIEVE THE PRESENSE SENSORS ACTIVATES THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM RESULTING IN A LOSS OF CONTROL IN THE CAR AND SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENT.

I LEASED MY AUDI A4 IN JUNE 2017 AND I TOOK MY CAR TO DEALER FOR THE FIRST SERVICE AT 8000 MILES AND THEY SAID I NEED TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES AS TIRES HAS NO MORE LIFE IN IT. LATER, I CHECKED WITH THE OTHER DEALER AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING. I HAD CONTINENTAL SPORTCONTACT 6 R02 BW 245/35R19 93Y TIRES. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE TIRES OR QUALITY OF THESE TIRES ARE REALLY BAD. AUDI DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS THEY SAY CONTACT CONTINENTAL. WHY WOULD AUDI PUT SUCH BAD TIRES IF THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LAST FOR 8000 MILES?

NHTSA ID 11164862 · filed Jan 7, 2019

I HAD TWO TIRE SIDE WALL DEFECTS THAT RESULTED IN "BALLOONING" OF THE SIDE OF THE TIRE. THE TIRES ARE PIRELLI 245/40/ R-18. THE CAR HAS 12,500 MILES ONLY. I FOUND OUT THE FIRST BIG BALLOON AT HOME AND NEXT DAY NOTICED THE SECOND ONE SMALLER BUT GROWING.
