2014 Audi A8 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 Audi A8, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Car went dead on the hwy without any warning. Dealer has the vehicle for a month now and says there is metal shavings in fuel and need more than 15000/- in repairs to replace fuel pump, 6 fuel injectors fuel line and fuel rail. Metal shavings come from fuel pump Failure there should be micro filters in line to stop them from entering the fuel line and injector with sudden death.

I was driving along on the highway, at normal speeds. When my engine started surging, causing me to speed up and slow down rapidly. Putting the safety of others behind and in front of me in danger. No check engine or any light of that nature turned on. then after another mile or so my engine sputtered then just died. I had to pull to the left side of the road since there way a semi truck to my right and it was rush hour here on [XXX] in Denver, CO. I don't know what the issue was but I was worried if the people behind me could easily get out from behind me as I almost caused a rear end collision. I'm taking my A8 into the mechanic this coming Monday to find out exactly what was wrong. But engines shouldn't just die out on you on the highway. The oil strainer needs to be replaced in my car. This is a known issue with Audi and there are many recalls on Audis, with the exception of mine. I read that this can lead to the engine stopping and causing an accident and it can ruin the engine. This has been problem has been reported to me by an independent service center.

SUNGLASSES HOLDER WILL NOT STAY CLOSED AND FALLS DOWN BLOCKING MY REARVIEW MIRROR. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO CLOSE IT AND IT WILL NOT CLOSE. I CANNOT SEE CLEARLY OUT OF MY REARVIEW MIRROR WHICH IS HAZARDOUS TO MY DRIVING WHEN TRYING TO SWITCH LANES AND/OR TELL HOW CLOSE SOMEONE IS TO MY BUMPER TO PREVENT MY CAR FROM BEING REAR ENDED. I'M WORRIED THAT AN ACCIDENT MAY HAPPEN DUE TO THIS ISSUE. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND APPARENTLY OTHER AUDI DRIVERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE ACCORDING TO ONE AUDI SERVICE FORUM (HTTPS://WWW.AUDIWORLD.COM/FORUMS/Q5-SQ5-MKI-8R-DISCUSSION-129/SUNGLASS-HOLDER-NOT-STAYING-UP-SRSLY-2856965/). THIS ALSO APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE VOLKSWAGON BRANDED CARS.

ISSUE WITH THE WINDSHIELD LEAKING PROFUSELY. THIS LED TO MOISTURE ISSUES INSIDE THE CAR WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN, WHICH COULD PRESENT A SERIOUS VISIBILITY HAZARD. THERE ARE ALSO NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (MAJOR VEHICLE CONTROL AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULES) LOCATED IN THE TRACKING PATH OF THE WATER WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ISSUES TO THE DRIVABILITY AND SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE IF IN MOTION. UPON REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A COMPLETE SECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD SEALANT MISSING ALONG THE TOP EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD, NEAR THE REAR VIEW MIRROR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I AM A MEMBER OF SEVERAL AUDI VEHICLE FORUMS AND THIS IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED ISSUE THERE. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE THIS AGENCY AWARE OF THE ISSUE BEFORE ANYONE GOT SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD.

The rear view mirror on my car fell off of the windshield without warning. As a result,I nearly backed into a lady and her granddaughter in a senior living facility and a woman pushing a shopping cart at the supermarket. My adaptive cruise control isn't working nor is the sunroof.Th rain sensor and headlights have also been compromised. The manufacturer hasn't inspected it.My insurance company has looked at it, but won't cover it.The rear view mirror has the eyes behind me for the last 28 years. It's second nature to me,so to take my eyes off of the road to check my side/blind spots,an actual blind spot exists behind me.There's too many variables that can come into play with life altering results. Please help me with this issue as I have exhausted all of my resources.

Turbos failed. Was traveling home on a highway, when i pulled off the engine suddenly stalls out and loss of steering occurs as the engine system automatically puts you in park. Switching to neutral leads to a very 'leaden'/heavy driving feeling (Kind of like with no Power steering, but a little better). Able to get it restarted again with some effort. Car will stall out at any point in time when RPM is 1200 or less (you have about .25s to get it back out of that range or it stalls again). Power is sluggish. To avoid stalls, shifts must be rapid and neutral-shift+gas needs to be applied to prevent RPM from being below 1200. Made it home safely, but had it towed to dealership. Dealership notified me that it was a turbo failure, both impellers have become lodged in the side of turbo casing and are stalled out. Nothing preceded this; no engine lights or anything. Effect was sudden and drastic. Temperatures were fine. Attempt to drive to repair shop led to total loss of coolant. It is believed this is a seperate issue.

Driving home from church, heard a rattle, like a stick was stuck underneath. Then felt loss of power. No warning/engine check light, but car stalled while I was turning left off a highway. When car stalled I had no warning, and no steering or brakes. Husband was able to assist with getting care off road and out of oncoming traffic. We were worried about being able to avoid pedestrians at the corner as we had NO control and they did not seem to be aware of the emergency. Looked online and saw lots of similar stories. Exactly like what happened to us. Mechanic says turbo chargers failed. One is sheered off and one is rubbed/failing. Audi quoted us $14,000 to repair. Car is at 80,700 miles which seems to be 700 miles out of warrantee. All service work has been done by Audi and recorded. Audi is unwilling to help with this issue. This has to be the most scary incident driving I have ever had. It was shocking that there was no warning. And I lost both steering and braking assist while crossing a travel lane and making a turn. It appears that Audi is aware that they have filter/check valve issues for the turbo charger oil supply. They have since upgraded these parts but have failed to replace the faulty parts when cars like ours go in for service. They have also failed to warn people of this potential hazard. We have called Audi Corporate and they say there is nothing they can do to help.

WHEN THE SUNROOF RETRACTS OR CLOSES IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE (SOUNDS LIKE AN MRI MACHINE). I KEEP IT CLOSED FOR POSSIBLE GLASS CRACKING SAFETY REASONS. THIS OCCURS WHILE IDLE OR DRIVING ON ANY STREET/HIGHWAY SURFACE. AUDI THINKS ITS A MOTOR ISSUE AND IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR ANY RECALL.
