2018 BMW 640XI Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

My BMW's passenger side airbag malfunction light randomly came on and will not turn off. When I went to the dealer, BMW quoted apprx. $3000 to replace the seat sensor mat which they said probably got wet? No water was ever on the seat and no passenger sits there - just my purse. I feel this is a safety related defect after seeing numerous reports and complaints online and trying to fix the issue. The warning message also blocks other important information on my dashboard.

The contact owns a 2018 BMW 640XI. The contact stated that while pulling up to a red traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the engine revved unexpectedly, and the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and drove forward approximately 3-feet. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted the engine and the engine continued to rev very high. The vehicle was restarted a second time and the unintended revving ceased and the vehicle operated normally. The following morning the vehicle was driven to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on one previous occasion. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,448.
