What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2011 BMW 740I US, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR ACTUATORS AND LATCHES ARE NOT WORKING. THESE ARE THE SOFT-CLOSE DOORS AND ONCE YOU ARE INSIDE AND THE DOOR LOCKS, YOU CANNOT UNLOCK IT TO GET OUT. YOU CAN PRESS THE LOCK BUTTON AND IT DOES NOT UNLOCK. ALSO, IF YOU LOCK THE CAR FROM THE OUTSIDE, YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO UNLOCK THE CAR TO GET BACK IN WITH THE REMOTE OR THE ACTUAL KEY. BMW IS CHARGING FOR A LOCKSMITH TO UNLOCK THE CAR AND THEY ARE CHARGING OVER $2500 TO REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IF YOU ARE DRIVING AND WAS THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY THAT WOULD HAVE TO EXIT THE CAR THIS WOULD BE LIFE-THREATENING.
