What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2020 BMW C650 GT Maxi-Scooter, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
THE TOP RIGHT SIDE PANEL CAME OFF WHEN TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON RTE 42 AT ABOUT 50 MPH. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AT A SAFE PLACE AND RETRIEVED THE PANEL BUT IT COULD NOT BE REPLACED. THIS EXPOSED THE BATTERY AND OTHER ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS TO THE WEATHER, MAKING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. IF THIS SITUATION OCCURRED WHEN I WAS RIDING WITH AGROUP OF RIDERS, IT COULD HAVE GONE UNDER THE WHEEL(S) OF ANOTHE RBIKE AND CAUSED IT TO CRASH INJURING THE RIDER UPTO AND INCLUDING DEATH.

I HAVE A SECOND ISSUE ON MY C650GT FOR THE TECH TO RESOLVE. IT MAY BE CONNECTED TO THE FIRST ISSUE THAT I EMAILED YOU ABOUT EARLIER. I WAS TRAVELING AT 40 TO 45MPH, THROTTLE WAS STEADY, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE THROTTTLE DOWN TO IDLE AND THE BIKE LOST MOMENTUM. I TWISTED THE THROTTLE EVEN MORE TO INCREASE SPEED WITH NO SUCCESS. WITHIN 2-3 SECONDS THE ENGINE RETURNED TO PROPER RPM'S AND ERROR LIGHTS UP ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND REMAINED ON UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. I RESTARTED THE BIKE AND THE ASC LIGHT CLEARED. BECAUSE THIS ISSUE OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING ON A BUSY STRETCH OF ROAD AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT I WILL FOLLOW UP WITH THE NHTSA AND BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION.

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
