2007 BMW K1200 R Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

ABS PUMP FAILED. *TR

NHTSA ID 10681306 · filed Feb 4, 2015

2007 BMW K1200. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A DEFECTIVE ABS MODULATOR SYSTEM. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED JUST WEEKS OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP, THE BRAKE FAILED COMPLETELY, AND A RED LIGHT STARTED FLASHING RAPIDLY. HE TOOK THE BIKE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY KEPT IT FOR TWO WEEKS. A SERVICE REP FROM BMW EXAMINED THE BIKE, AND WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS AN INTERMITTENT EVENT, THAT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO REPEAT. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, AND THE SERVICE REP INFORMED HIM THE CULPRIT WAS A FAULTY REAR BRAKE SWITCH. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE PROBLEM WAS MIS-DIAGNOSED. THE REAL PROBLEM, THE SERVICE REP LATER DISCOVERED WAS A DEFECTIVE ABS MODULATOR. THE CONSUMER STATED BECAUSE OF POOR JUDGMENT FROM BMW HEADQUARTERS, THE JOB WAS NEVER APPROVED TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULATOR AND THE CONSUMERS WARRANTY HAS SINCE EXPIRED. *JB UPDATED 09/17/14. *JB
