The defect: BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2012-2013 BMW X3 xDrive28i, X3 xDrive35i, and M6 Convertible vehicles and 2013 M6 Coupe vehicles. The affected vehicles have a driver's frontal air bag inflator that may have been improperly welded.
The risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator housing could separate from the base plate and result in metal striking the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
The remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's front air bag module, free of charge. The recall began October 6, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The defect: BMW is recalling certain model year 2013 M5, M6 Coupe, and M6 Convertible vehicles, manufactured from July 19, 2012, through September 11, 2012. Due to a manufacturing process error, the tolerance between the engine oil pump's drive shaft and the pump's rotor was not within specification. As a result, the pump's driveshaft could separate from the rotor.
The risk: Separation of the pump's driveshaft from the rotor could lead to a sudden loss of oil pressure causing the possibility of complete engine failure, resulting in an engine stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
The remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the oil pump, free of charge. The safety recall began on November 30, 2012. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.

The contact owns a 2013 BMW M6. The contact stated that while driving at 80 MPH, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

HELLO, I BOUGHT A USED 2013 BMW M6 WITH ABOUT 77K MILES ON IT FROM DCH MONTCLAIR ACURA IN NJ, AND SINCE I BOUGHT IT THE CAR HAS HAD PROBLEMS AND I TRIED TO RETURN IT TO THEM A FEW TIMES BUT THEY JUST BRUSHED ME OFF AND CURRENTLY MY CAR NEEDS A NEW ENGINE AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE LAST YEAR (2020). THEY HAVE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND ARE FORCING ME TO FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY AS MY ONLY OPTION OUT OF THIS CAR LOAN. THEY HAVE ALSO NOT PROVIDED ME WITH A SINGLE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT BUT ONLY REPAIR THE ORDER OF MINOR THINGS BEING FIXED. I HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC REPORT I GOT DONE SHORTLY AFTER GETTING THE CAR FROM THEM WHICH DOES NOT MATCH AT ALL WITH WHAT THEY STATED. THIS IS THE FIRST EVER CAR I PURCHASED. IT HAS A LOT OF MECHANICAL ISSUES WHICH WAS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE A CAR THAT IS LEAKING ALL KINDS OF FLUIDS AND HAS ENGINE ISSUES. NONE OF THESE ISSUES WERE MADE APPARENT. According to the customer, the airbag warning light was on, but it may not be illuminated when the vehicle arrives in the workshop. 1. ACSM fault code "930A60 - Seat occupancy detection, front passenger; malfunction" is stored. The fault may or may not currently be present. Or 2. ACSM fault code "930A1C - Front passenger seat occupancy detection transmitting fault(moisture)" is stored. The fault may or may not currently be present.
