What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 BMW R 1200 ST, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.

THROTTLE CABLE BELL CRANKS CRACK DUE TO POOR QUALITY PLASTIC MATERIAL. THIS CAUSES MOTORCYCLE TO SUDDENLY LOSE POWER AS HAND THROTTLE NO LONGER WORKS, AND ENGINE RETURNS TO IDLE SPEED. THIS CAN LEAD TO A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD IF THIS OCCURS ON HIGH SPEED ROADWAYS, FREEWAY ETC. MY VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED WHEN THE CRACKS (AND IMPENDING FAILURE) WERE NOTICED BY SERVICE PERSONNEL.
FUEL LEAKS FROM THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE MOTORCYCLE DRIPPING ONTO THE CYLINDER HEAD AND EXHAUST PIPE. THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK IS THE QUICK DISCONNECT FITTING AT THE FUEL PUMP. *TR
