I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2009 BUELL XB12XT MOTORCYCLE. 3 DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE, I PARKED THE MOTORCYCLE ON ITS KICK STAND FACING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH HAS A SLIGHTLY DOWNWARD SLOPE. THE MOTORCYCLE RESTED ON ITS KICK STAND AS NORMAL. I STARTED THE ENGINE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL TO LET IT WARM UP AND WALKED BACK TO CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR. THE VIBRATION FROM THE ENGINE CAUSED THE KICKSTAND TO MOVE OUT OF THE LOCK POSITION AND ALLOWED THE MOTORCYCLE TO FALL OVER ON ITS LEFT SIDE UNEXPECTEDLY, CAUSING $428 OF DAMAGE TO THE MOTORCYCLE JUST IN THE COST OF REPLACEMENT PARTS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES ONLY BECAUSE I HAD WALKED AWAY FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. IF I HAD BEEN STANDING NEXT TO IT, I COULD HAVE BEEN PINNED UNDER A MOTORCYCLE THAT WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 500 POUNDS. THIS DEFECT COULD ALSO CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, DEATH, OR SEVERE BURNS, ESPECIALLY TO SMALL CHILDREN WHO COULD BE TRAPPED UNDER THE FALLEN MOTORCYCLE. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL OTHER MOTORCYCLES AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *TR

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
