The defect: BYD Coach & Bus (BYD) is recalling certain 2019 C8M buses equipped with Transpec glass roof escape hatches. Temperature and vibration stresses may cause the tempered glass roof hatch to shatter.
The risk: If the tempered glass roof hatch shatters, glass fragments may fall onto passengers, increasing the risk of an injury.
The remedy: BYD has notified the affected owners, and BYD technicians will replace the glass roof hatches, free of charge. The recall began July 22, 2019. Owners may contact BYD customer service at 1-661-940-3250.

Safety recall

NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
