What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Cadillac Escalade, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

For approx. the past 6 months, the radio has been cutting out several times during my daily commute. On occasion, a message would appear saying Stabilitrack is off. Saturday, it cut out and stayed off for more than 30 minutes and did it several more times. Everytime the radio cuts out, the door locks started locking and unlocking on their own, the air conditioning, cooled front seats, and defrost turns on and the seats the airbag off light came on, and a warning message saying service stability system came on, plus the engine was revving without power and I was worried I was going to lose all electrical and control, so I pulled off the We have ran several diagnostic but found no error code messages and nothing wrong with the vehicle. When I was talking to them, the system was acting normally. I have taken the car to the dealership and my local family mechanic shop. We have paid extensively to change the grounding wire, battery, cables, fuses and other grounding components to resolve this issue. It is very dangerous and has caused my family to jerk and sometimes be hit in the process. It has died on the highway and creates an extreme possibility for accident to others, if this continues to occur. I typically would not reach out in this manner and I would just replace the vehicle, but through further research, others have also had this problem, reported it on the Cadillac forum and we have not been added to the previous electrical recall or gotten resolutions. This is my last resort before this becomes a fatality for some owner.

THE TRUCK WAS STATIONARY AND OIL AND POWER STERING FLUIDS WAS ON MY CARPORT. I HAVE CHECKED FOR PROBLEMS ON THE INTERNET AND MORE THAN A FEW IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME SUV.
LOST ALL POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY WARNING FROM THE ERROR CODE SYSTEM. COULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY OR CAUSED ONE.I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THIS VEHICLE HAS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. I HAVE THE REPAIR INVOICE AND THAT UNIT WAS CORRODED.

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
After driving car all day off and on, it suddenly went into limp mode. Multiple misfires. Service traction t control and service stabilitrak warnings. Engine light flashing. Car had oil. Replaced oil pressure sensor. Replaced spark plugs. Wires. And coils. Will not clear misfire and won’t go out of limp mode. $7500 fix. This is ridiculous. I have heard of 15 others with the same issue.
TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARD AT ABOUT 20MPH, GOING FROM SECOND TO FIRST. INITIALLY ONLY OCCURRED AT THIS SCENARIO HOWEVER IT IS OCCURRING AT NORMAL SHIFTING UP AND DOWN. HAD A 2008 THAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME DOWNSHIFTING PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 165K MILES AND HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR HAULING.

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
Low oil pressure causing engine failure, suspension issues constantly, limp mode won’t go off
I WAS INFORMED BY A GM DEALER THAT THERE WAS A "BULLETIN" AFFECTING THESE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE ISSUE OF THE SEAT WARMERS AND COOLING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE HARNESS WAS "FRYED", LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHICH TO ME SOUNDS AS THOUGH A FIRE OR SOME BURNING EVENT OCCURRED. THE REPAIR COST WAS $990 AND I CALLED GM FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS TOLD THAT YES, IN FACT THERE WAS A BULLETIN ON THESE VEHICLES HOWEVER MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED.SOUNDS TO ME AS THOUGH THERE IS A POTENTIAL SERIOUS ISSUE HERE THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR OTHER PROBLEM FOR OTHER OWNERS WHO ARE NOT PART OF THE "BULLETIN". IN TERMS OF DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM, THE SEAT HEATING AND COOLING JUST STOPPED WORKING ALTHOUGH THE LIGHTS INDICATING THEY WERE WORKING WERE STILL ILLUMINATED.

I HAVE THREE SEPARATE SITUATIONS WITH MY 2009 CADILLAC ESCALADE PLATINUM. THE UPPER DASH CLOSER TO THE WINDOW IS CRACKED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. ALSO THE CADILLAC ESCALADE WOODGRAIN SIGN LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD IS CRACKED AS WELL. IS THIS A DEFECT? MY VEHICLE IS TYPICALLY STORED IN THE GARAGE BUT YET AND STILL MY DASHBOARD IS CRACKED. LASTLY, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CADILLAC REGARDING THE RECALL/REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS BACK IN 2015. I CALLED LINDSAY CADILLAC OF ALEXANDRIA TO SCHEDULE A REPLACEMENT; HOWEVER, THEIR RESPONSE IS THERE NO AIRBAGS AVAILABLE. ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

PULSE WIDTH MODULATED L.E.D. AUTOMOTIVE LIGHTS SUCH AS ARE CURRENTLY BEING USED ON A FEW UPSCALE LUXURY CARS, NEED TO HAVE THEIR MINIMUM PULSEWIDTH INCREASED OR STANDARDIZED. THEY PRODUCE A DISTRACTING AND OFTEN IRRITATING STROBING EFFECT WHEN VIEWED. *TR
ON GENERAL MOTORS CARS THAT LIGHT THE BACKUP LIGHTS WHILE PARKED AND REMOTE LOCK AND UNLOCK ARE ACTIVATED. PEDESTRIANS AND DRIVERS STOP AS IF THE VEHICLE MAY BACK UP WHICH SHOULD BE A PROPER REACTION. I HAVE EVEN TAUGHT MY CHILDREN THIS, PEOPLE NOW HAVE A TENDENCY TO IGNORE THE BACKUP LAMPS ON VEHICLES IN PARKING LOTS AS WELL AS CREATING INCONVENIENT SITUATIONS AS CARS AND PEDESTRIANS STOP FOR UNOCCUPIED VEHICLES. I HAVE FOUND MYSELF DRIVING PAST THESE VEHICLES WHEN THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO BACKUP CREATING A CLOSE CALL. I KNOW THIS SEEMS TRIVIAL BUT I SEE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS AND IT SEEMS TO ME A SIMPLE COMPUTER REFLASH COULD SOLVE THIS DISTURBING TREND. IN THE VEHICLE DESCRIPTION I CHOSE CADILLAC ESCALADE THOUGH IT SEEMS TO BE MOST GM PRODUCTS. *TR

MY WIFE WAS GOING TO A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT WITH OUR 1 YEAR OLD CHILD. WHEN SHE ARRIVES SHE NOTICED THE POWER-ASSISTED STEP DID NOT UNFOLD WHEN SHE OPENED HER DOOR, AS IT NORMALLY DOES. WHEN SHE RETURNED FROM HER APPOINTMENT AND GOT IN THE CAR IT THE POWER-ASSISTED STEP OPENED NORMALLY. AFTER MAKING HER FIRST TURN OUT OF THE STREET SHE HAD PARKED ON, THE NAVIGATION CD STARTED EJECTING AND INSERTING ITSELF AUTOMATICALLY, ALL OF DOORS WERE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CENTER CONSOLE WERE FLICKERING, POWER STEERING WAS LOST, AND THE CAR STALLED. SHE MANAGED TO VEER OVER, TURN THE KEY OFF, AND CALLED ME. I TOLD HER TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRY TO RESTART. IT STARTED FINE AND SHE CAREFULLY DROVE BACK HOME. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THERE WERE MULTIPLE WELL-DOCUMENTED BULLETINS ON THIS ELECTRICAL FAILURE HAPPENING AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE BEST SUITED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLES TO THE BATTERY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH WORSE SITUATION IN WHICH MY WIFE OR CHILD WAS PERMANENTLY INJURED OR KILLED. IMAGINE IF THIS HAD OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY - CAR STALLING AND LOSING POWER STEERING. THIS MATTER NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON THEME FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL. DO NOT WAIT FOR A FATALITY TO OCCUR. *TR
