1993 Cadillac Seville Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY 93 SEVILLE HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE DAY ONE. I HAVE REPLACED SOCKETS AND THEY CONTINUE TO BURN OUT, NOT THE BULB BUT THE SOCKETS? I HAVE ASKED OTHER SEVILLE OWNERS AND THEY TOO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T THIS ISSUE BEEN ADDRESSED BY GM. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE? *AK

LOST VEHICLE BRAKING BECAUSE OF BRAKE LINE TUBING CORROSION. I NARROWLY AVOIDED REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BY QUICKLY CHANGING LANES INTO THE LEFT TURN LANE. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE BRAKE TUBING WAS NOT GALVANIZED AS THE PITTING CORROSION WAS SEVERE... THE CAR IS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD. I HOPE OTHERS WILL NOT BE EXPOSED TO THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF A MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE... THE BRAKES!*JB

WHILE REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER, BOTH REAR BRAKE LINES WERE NOTED TO BE SEVERLY RUSTED. BY THE TIME THE FUEL FILTER WAS REMOVED FROM THE HOLDING BRACKET (THIS BRACKET ALSO HOLDS THE BRAKE LINES ABOVE THE FILTER) THE BRAKE LINES STARTED TO LEAK. MANUFACTURER DOES NOT RECOMMEND UNDERCOATING, HOWEVER DEALERSHIP STATED THAT WHEN THEY REPLACE BRAKE LINES THEY ALWAYS UNDERCOAT THE LINES. NOW, SECTIONS OF BRAKE LINE HAVE BEEN REPLACED, HOWEVER SOME SECTIONS OF THE LINE CAN'T BE EASILY REACHED AND WILL REMAIN IN PLACE. I'M WORRIED THAT THE LINES WILL RUPTURE WHEN I'M DRIVING AND NEED TO BRAKE HARD. HELP!
