Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: ON CERTAIN CLASS C MINI-MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON 2003 CHEVROLET CHASSIS, THE CHASSIS FUEL RETURN LINE, WHICH IS TAPPED TO SUPPLY FUEL TO THE GENERATOR, HAS BEEN FOUND TO HAVE PRESSURES THAT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED BY THE GENERATOR MANUFACTURER.
The risk: AS A RESULT, IF THE GENERATOR IS OPERATED AT THE SAME TIME THE CHASSIS ENGINE IS RUNNING, EXCESS FUEL COULD BE DELIVERED TO THE GENERATOR, CREATING A POTENTIAL FOR A GENERATOR STALL AND POSSIBLE FUEL SPILL. IN THE EVENT OF A FUEL SPILL, A FIRE COULD OCCUR.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN APPROVED KIT THAT DRAWS THE GENERATOR FUEL SUPPLY DIRECTLY FROM THE FUEL TANK. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS BEGAN MARCH 24, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT COACHMEN AT 1-800-453-6064.

Front storage bin lid vibrated the latches loose and unlatched, it caught the wind at 60 mph and it broke the lid off flying in to traffic. I believe the sun decomposed the foam insulation making the lid not tight when closed, also the lid I made of cheap plastic which made it easier to brake off its hinges.

SEVERAL TIMES A SEATBELT RECALL NOTICE WAS SENT TO ME FOR MY CHEVY VAN (COACHMAN MOTORHOME) AND TWICE I'VE SENT IT BACK STATING THAT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY LISTED FOR THE REPAIR REFUSED TO FIX IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE LISTED ESTABLISHMENT TELLS ME THAT I NEED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP THAT IS AN HOUR AWAY. THAT WOULD BE A 2 HOUR ROUND TRIP PLUS IT WOULD COST AN ADDITIONAL $40 DOLLARS FOR THE GAS IT TAKES TO GET THERE AND BACK. THE RECALL KEEPS COMING BACK WITH THE SAME DEALERSHIP LISTED WITH NO OTHER RESPONSE. CAN SOMEONE LET US KNOW HOW TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE WE TAKE OUR TRIP TO CANADA IN JULY WITHOUT HAVING TO TAKE IT SO FAR FOR THE REPLACEMENT. WE LIVE ONLY 15 MINUTES AWAY FROM SOUTH MILWAUKEE AND WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS SOMEWHERE IN THAT AREA THAT COULD PERFORM THE REPLACEMENT.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
