The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH ATWOOD SEALED BURNER RANGES, THE RANGE AND SLIDE-IN BURNER TUBES LEADING FROM THE GAS MANIFOLD TO THE BURNER HEADS HAD A DEPRESSION OR 'KINK' IN THE EXTERIOR BEND RESTRICTING PROPER AIRFLOW AND GAS MIXTURE.
The risk: THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.
The remedy: COUNTRY COACH IS WORKING WITH ATWOOD TO HAVE THE TUBES REPLACED ON THESE RANGES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ATWOOD AT 1-800-348-7418 OR COUNTRY COACH AT 1-800-547-8015.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL

The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES BUILT WITH CUMMINS ISL CM850 DIESEL ENGINES, THE CONNECTING ROD CONTAINS A MACHINING DEFECT IN THE WRIST PIN BUSHING OF THE ROD THAT COULD CAUSE A SEIZURE OF THE PISTON PIN.
The risk: IF ALLOWED TO PROGRESS, THIS CAN LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ROD RUPTURING THE LOCK CAVITY, OIL AND DEBRIS ON THE ROADWAY AND VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: COUNTRY COACH IS WORKING WITH CUMMINS TO RECALIBRATE THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND ENHANCE THE ENGINE PROTECTION SYSTEM ENABLING IT TO PROVIDE EARLY DETECTION OF THE FAILURE MODE AND AVOID MORE SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE AND RESULTANT SAFETY HAZARD. CUMMINS WILL ALSO INSTALL A NEW VALVE COVER WITH A CRANKCASE PRESSURE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE (PLEASE SEE 07E033). OWNERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS AT 800-343-7357 OR COUNTRY COACH AT 1-541-998-3720.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The defect: CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE MOTOR HOMES WERE EQUIPPED WITH MORE THAN THREE AMBER IDENTIFICATION LAMPS LOCATED AT THE TOP AND FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE SIDE MARKER LIGHTS IN THE COMBINATION HEADLIGHT AND TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM PHOTOMETRIC VALUE AT 45 DEGREES AS SPECIFIED IN THE STANDARD.
The risk: THE FIVE IDENTIFICATION LIGHTS COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE CONFUSION TO ON-COMING MOTORISTS WHO ARE USED TO OBSERVING THREE IDENTIFICATION LIGHTS. THE INADEQUACY OF THE FRONT AND REAR SIDE MARKER LIGHTS COULD AFFECT VISIBILITY OF THE MOTOR HOME DURING HOURS OF DARKNESS THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE TWO EXTRA IDENTIFICATION LAMPS AND INSTALL FOUR SIDE MARKER LIGHTS, ONE AT EACH CORNER, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MARCH 31, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT COUNTRY COACH AT 800-547-8015.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
