The defect: CAR ADAPTER FOR CYBERHOME PORTABLE DVD PLAYER, HSN ITEM #707613 AND SOLD IN MARCH 2003. THE PLAYER MAY BECOME VERY HOT WHEN USED WITH THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY IN PLACE.
The risk: USING THE CAR ADAPTER WITH THE BATTERY CAN CAUSE THE ADAPTER TO OVERHEAT AND POSSIBLY MELT, CREATING A RISK OF FIRE IF FLAMMABLE MATERIAL IS NEARBY.
The remedy: ARGUS WILL MAIL REPLACEMENT ADAPTERS TO ITS CUSTOMERS FREE OF CHARGE. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN APRIL 18, 2003. OWNERS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT ARGUS ELECTRONICS AT 888-274-8740.

Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
