What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2001 Daewoo Puerto Rico Leganza, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
IN SEPTEMBER 2004 MY 2001 DAEWOO LEGANZA WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION WITHOUT PUTTING THE KEY INSIDE THE SLOT ON THE GEARSHIFT PANEL. I WOULD HAVE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL THEN START THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON ALSO AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. I TOOK IT GERALD JONES IN AUGUSTA, GA. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TWO TYPES OF SENSORS, WHICH REQUIRED THE REMOVAL OF THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD. THEY HAD MY CAR ALMOST A MONTH AND WHEN I DID GET IT BACK IT STARTED TO ACT UP AGAIN. LATER I FOUND OUT IT WAS ONLY A FUSE KIT THAT WAS NEEDED AND A CAM SENSOR. AS A RESULT OF MY DASHBOARD BEING REMOVED. THE ENTIRE DASH IS COMING APART. IN PASSING I HAVE NOTICED ALL DAEWOO LEGANZA IN MY AREA HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DASHBOARD. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS, EVENTHOUGH THEY KNEW IT WAS FROM THEIR REPAIR WORK. I'M SURE THESE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE USED GERALD JONES, BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONLY DAEWOO DEALERSHIP IN OUR ENTIRE AREA. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET TAG NUMBERS AND PUTTING OUT SIGNS TO SEE IF INFACT REPAIR WORK INVOLVING THESE SENSOR REPAIR WORK HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS WITH CAR OWNERS DASHBOARDS. IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE DASHBOARDS, YES! IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM SENSOR, YES! I HAD IT REPLACED TWICE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. THE CAR REALLY AND TRULY IS A WONDERFUL CAR. I WANT MY CAR TO BE SAFE. THE CAM SENSOR ISSUE IS NOT SAFE AND THE DASHBOARD ISSUE ISN'T EITHER. I'M SURE THIS AFFECTS THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE DASHBOARDS. IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN TWENTY DAEWOOS WITH THIS DEFECT, IT WORTH SOMEONE'S LIFE TO LOOK INTO THIS. I WORRY THAT MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. I HAVE PURCHASED THAT STRIP WHERE THAT DEFROSTER IS, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD GO THIS WAY FIRST. THANK YOU, FNT *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 DAEWOO LEGANZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS AS PART OF THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V394000). THE FAILURE RECURRED, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS PART OF THE RECALL AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
DT: THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED. THE ABS LIGHT DOES COME ON AND OFF WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES. APPEARSTHAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE COMING OFF THE ROTORS, AND MAKING A WEIRD NOISE. BRAKE PEDAL COMES UP A LITTLE BIT. *AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO STOP AT A SLOW PACE. *JB THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL BRAKE WEAR. *SC

From owner reports, verbatim
RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY CAR A DAEWOO LEGANZA 01, BACK IN JULY, CALLED THE LOCAL SERVICE PROVIDER GIVEN, REGAL IN LAKELAND, THEY TOLD ME QUICKLY AND RUDELY THAT THESE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, CALL BACK IN A FEW WEEKS, CALLED BACK AUG 3, AND SPOKE WITH MIKE, WHICH AGAIN SAID THE PARTS STILL ARE NOT IN KEEP CALLING BACK AND CHECKING FOR PARTS, THEN I CALL TODAY 9-20, TO SEE IF PARTS ARE IN, THE GUY SAID THAT THE PARTS HAD ALWAYS BEEN IN SO HE WASN'T SURE WHY THEY WOULD HAVE SAID THAT, BUT THEN HE PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT THERE COMPUTERS WERE DOWN AND I COULD CALL BACK IN A FEW HOURS AND THEN THEY COULD MAKE ME AN APT. I HAVE CALLED TWICE SINCE THEN AND NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE IN SERVICE, WEIRD, BUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THESE RUDE PEOPLE IS SO UNKIND TO ANYONE WHO OWNS A DAEWOO, AND HAS TO TROUBLE THESE HORRIBLE PEOPLE FOR ANY KIND OF RECALLS. *NM

CLUTCH FAILURE AT ONLY 57,000 MILES HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE THING MECHANIC STATED IT WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND WHEN THEY WENT TO REPLACE IT SOME RELATED PARTS JUST CRUMBLED AND FELL OFF. ALSO HAD TO HAVE A NEW SWAY BAR PUT ON BECAUSE IT FELL OFF AT THE TIME OF THE CLUTCH REPAIR. IT WAS EXPENSIVE OVER $700. *JB
