What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Dodge 1500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Driving and all of the sudden you get a death wobble, truck bouncing/ rattling making it hard to steer and won't stop until you slow down or stop. More than one date bit the one I will add below is most current
Driving and it will randomly have a death wobble...hit a bump or at a certain speed it will have a death wobble and is hard to control until slowed or stopped.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
I purchased my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 truck around May 2022 at a used car lot. It had low mileage so I thought I did great. Immediately after I brought it home, it began to die. I figured it had a really old battery so I purchased a new one. This one would last around 3 days instead of the one day before dying. I would drive it and jump it over and over. I tried to contact the dealer over and over but they would not respond to my calls. I wrote a terrible review about them in Yelp and they contacted me immediately, but when I attempted to schedule a time to drop the truck back off, they stopped responding again. About 9 months later the truck stopped turning over all together. We found that the fuel pump was the issue. It sat for a year until I had it towed to the mechanic, who fixed the fuel pump, but found that the car would only run for a few seconds. He continued to diagnose it, and after weeks, he tells me that there is something terribly faulty with the electrical system, but he is stumped as to what it is. He says he does not see where anyone has tampered with the system at all, but there is something mysterious about the electrical component. I have put so much money into this truck including having to pay insurance and a high monthly payment for a dead truck. Please help me. I can provide documents after I meet with mechanic who still has truck.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled, and then the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stopped the vehicle and had to wait for over one hour before being able to restart the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump relay had failed and informed the contact that there was a recall for the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V115000 (Electrical System) however, neither the VIN nor the vehicle was included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim

Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
The air bag light is on and it has a recall the lights behind the gages went out and the engine has a knock at times
2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD - No interior lighting, No dashboard lighting. The interior lighting and dashboard illumination affects day and evening driving for different reasons. No ability to drive vehicle during evening hours or when there is no natural day lighting. Unable to see the speedometer, gas level indicator and temperature gauges. Exterior lights work, but inside the vehicle it is completely dark. There were no warning lamps or messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to discovery during evening hours due to dashboard not displaying or illuminating the warning lamps during day hours. So if something were to go wrong while driving during the day there is no way of knowing the issue and/or troubleshooting prior to failure. Replaced blown fuse in the Integrated Power Module - Cavity 35 - Mini fuse 15 Amp Blue - Description Cabin Compartment Node (CCN) Illumination. This course of action restored the interior lights and the dashboard lighting appeared to be working, however the warning lamps were displaying false information. For example, emergency brake light was on, but the emergency brake was not engaged. There is no way of knowing if the warning lamps are reporting accurate or inaccurate information. The vehicle was purchased used on 8/31/2021 - mileage 204,836. The information reported in this text above was not disclosed by the dealership. As of 9/1/2021 in process of having vehicle inspected by dealership to determine course of action. To date all communication has been verbal.

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
In the 4 years I have owned this 2007 Dodge Ram I have had to replace the wiper motor 5 times. I was at my fathers funeral, it was snowing and I started the truck but the wipers would not turn on. The wiper motor was just replaced in late fall of last year, less than 6 months. I've only put 12,000 miles on the truck in 4 years. 102,000 miles on.
WIPERS WON'T POWER ON CONSISTENTLY. IN FACT NOW CAN'T SEEM TO GET THEM TO COME ON AT ALL. TRIED REPLACING THE MULTI FUNCTION TURN SIGNAL/WIPER/WASHER SWITCH WITHOUT SUCCESS. BEST GUESS FROM RESEARCH IS A FAILED TIPM, WHICH IS A MAJOR EXPENSE AND HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF PREVIOUS CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. FORTUNATELY IT'S WINTER AND I DISCOVERED THEY DON'T WORK WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. YET SOME DAYS THEY HAVE WORKED. OF LATE THEY DON'T SEEM TO COME ON AT ALL EVEN WITH THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW MULTIFUNCTION (ON THE COLUMN) SWITCH REFERENCED ABOVE.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
Adjustable pedals move side to side 2-3 inches making breaking unsafe by allowing foot to slip off of break onto the accelerator,
WHILE DRIVING CITY SPEEDS ABS AND PARKING BRAKE WARNING LIGHT APPEAR FOR 10 SEC AND THEN TURN OFF. DID NOT AFFECT DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OVER ANY SIZE BUMP, FRONT END MAKES SIGNIFICANT CLANK, BANG, WOBBLE NOISE. CAN'T LOCATE ISSUE, NOTHING IS LOOSE. REPLACED STRUTS, PROBLEM PERSISTS. SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM FRONT PASSENGER STEERING/SUSPENSION AREA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, SIGNIFICANT SHAKING WHILE BRAKING. SEVERAL OBD CODES; IMPROPER OIL WEIGHT, HAVE USED MANUFACTURE RECOMMENDED OIL FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE. OIL IS CHANGED EVERY 6000 MILES OR 3MONTHS. OBD CODE; LOW VOLTAGE. OBD CODE; TRANSMISSION OVERDRIVE CLUTCH.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.

STATIONARY AND MOTION LOW OIL PRESSURE DTC CONSTANTLY COMING ACTIVE, POSSIBLY A ECU FAULTY OR BAD SOFTWARE LOADED INTO IT.. STEERING CONSTANTLY WANTING TO SWAY BACK AND FORTH WHEN IN MOTION MAKES TRUCK BOUNCE BACK AND FORTH FROM LANE LINES, HAD BEARINGS,HUB,STRUTS,LOWER CONTROL ARMS,AND RACK AND PINION REPLACED STILL NO BETTER IF NOT WORSE, FOUND THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE ALSO BELIEVE THAT STEERING GEAR BOX THAT WAS INSTALLED WHEN TRUCK CAME FROM MANUFACTURER IS FAULTY AND THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN.
Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
I was in a head on accident going approximately 40 mph. I was wearing my seatbelt. A Chevy Trailblazer Crossed the centerline and hit me head on at approximately 40 mph. The airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt also did not restrain. As a result I hit the steering wheel and broke my sternum & suffered numerous other injuries. The Incident was documented by police and has been reported to my insurance company, Auto-Owners Insurance. No one has inspected the airbags or seatbelts but the vehicle is available for inspection.
MY WIFE , SON AND DAUGHTER WERE IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THEY WERE STRUCK IN THE FRONT AT ABOUT 40 MPH. THE SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD, IT RELEASED AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
ON THE WAY BACK TO BUFFALO MISSOURI AT APPROXIMATELY 4:30PM ( TRAVELING 65MPH), THE RIGHT REAR TIRE STARTED TO MAKE A VERY LOUD WINDING SOUND AND SHAKE. I SLOWED DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY (55MPH) AND THE TIRE BLEW OUT THE SIDEWALL, CAUSING MY TRUCK TO SEVERELY FISH TAIL IN THE MIDDLE OF A TWO LANE ROAD, NARROWLY MISSING ON-COMING TRAFFIC. ON SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2017 I TOOK MY TRUCK AND BLOWN OUT TIRE TO JBC TIRE AND AUTOMOTIVE (AUTHORIZED DEALER OF COOPER TIRES). JOSH MOUTREY WAS THE MANAGER ON DUTY. I INFORMED OF THE BLOW OUT. JOSH AND HIS MECHANIC CHECKED THE TIRE OF ANY FOREIGN DEBRIS, NAILS OR CUTS IN THE TIRE. AFTER THE INSPECTION ON THE BLOW OUT AND THE OTHER TIRES, JOSH STATED THAT THE TREAD ON THE THREE REMAINING TIRES HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR (LF HI:5, LOW:4; RF HI:5, LOW:4; LR HI: 5, LOW:4). ON THE BLOWN OUT TIRE FROM THE RR TIRE THEY FOUND NO FOREIGN DEBRIS, NAILS, CUTS OR ANY REASON THAT THE TIRE SHOULD HAVE BLOWN OUT THE SIDE WALL. JOSH CALLED COOPER TIRE AND RUBBER AT THEIR 800-573-9523 CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND TALKED TO THE ON DUTY SUPERVISOR (DOUG). I WAS LISTENING ON SPEAKER TO JOSH AND DOUG DISCUSSING THE TIRE. JOSH STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE: DISCOVER AT3; 265/10/17; DOT# UT1Y 1A6 3214 ON ALL 4 TIRES CAME FROM THE SAME BATCH# AND LOT#. JOSH STATED TO DOUG THAT THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON THE RR TIRE SHOULD HAVE BLOWN AND THAT THERE WAS NO FOREIGN DEBRIS FOUND. JOSH STATED TO DOUG THAT THE ONLY REASON FOR THE BLOW OUT WAS MANUFACTURES SIDE WALL DEFECT. JOSH ALSO, STATED THE REMAINING THREE TIRES HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR BEYOND ANY NORMAL WEAR FOR TIRES RATED AT A 60K MILE WARRANTY. HE ALSO STATED THAT THIS WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE RUBBER. DOUG (C.S. SUPERVISOR) STATED THE ONLY THING HE COULD DUE, WAS PRO-RATE THE BLOWN OUT TIRE AND PRO-RATE THE REMAINING 3 TIRES. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES BY COOPER TIRE, ATD (AMERICAN TIRE DISTRIBUTOR OR JBC TIRE AT THIS TIME.
I PURCHASED 4 NEW VEE RUBBER TIRES ON 12/5/15. SINCE THE PURCHASE I HAVE PUT LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THE TIRES AND HAVE NOW EXPERIENCED TWO COMPLETE BLOWOUTS IN WHICH THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRES APPEARS TO HAVE DISINTEGRATED WHILE DRIVING. HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OR AT A SPEED OVER 45 MPH I DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN SEVERE INJURY IF NOT DEATH.
Transmission
Reports naming the automatic or manual transmission, including shifting behaviour, shudder, slipping and transmission control modules.
From owner reports, verbatim
2007 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4. TRANSFER CASE PARTIALLY LOCKS IN CAUSING RIGHT FRONT TIRE TO LOCK UP. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE DOES NOT ENGAGE FULLY. THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY THE ELECTRONIC TRANSFER CASE MOTOR. THIS WAS OBSERVED AT A SPEED OF 30 MILES PER HOUR AND LOWER. HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET ABOUT THIS FAILURE. HAVE ONLY 52000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE RARELY USED. VEHICLE BECOMES UNDRIVABLE BECAUSE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WILL NOT FULLY DISENGAGE. SHIFTING INTO 4X4 MODE AT HIGHER SPEEDS COULD CAUSE VEHICLE TO VEER TO THE RIGHT AND OFF OF ROAD CAUSING A CRASH. THESE FAULTY TRANSFER CASE MOTORS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM ON DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS. *TR
ATM SHIFTING INTO REVERSE ON IT'S OWN AT SPEED OF 60MPH OR GREATER. 2007 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 WITH 53,806 MILES. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, VEHICLE SHIFTS ATM ITSELF ABRUPTLY INTO REVERSE FOR SPLIT SECOND, CAUSING TIRES TO BRIEFLY LOCKUP, THEN SHIFTS ITSELF BACK INTO DRIVE. NO CODES REGISTERED/CAPTURED BY ONBOARD COMPUTER. DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN DETERMINED CAUSE BY DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY ABOVE 60MPH WITH CODE READER CONNECTED AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE REVERSE SHIFTING AND RETRIEVED CODE. CODE (1577) DETECTING ATM REVERSE SOLENOID SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY IN TRANSMISSION. COSTS FOR THE REPAIR WAS $950.00 DOLLARS COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY POLICY WITH A $50.00 DOLLAR OUT OF POCKET (DEDUCTIBLE). **FORTUNATELY FOR MY WIFE AND I THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN DRY CONDITIONS. HAD THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS I'M CERTAIN THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED, POSSIBLY INVOLVING OTHERS.** *TR
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
I PURCHASED A 2007 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP IN NOVEMBER 2008. IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND TAKEN CARE OF, HOWEVER THE REAR FENDERS ARE RUSTING OUT. THE RUST IS SPREADING AND GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. THE EXCESSIVE RUSTING HAS SPREAD TO BOTH SIDES OF THE TRUCK ON THE LOWER DOOR PANELS. I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH THE BODY SHOP MANAGER AT A DEALERSHIP, WHO TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINEERING FLAW THAT IS CAUSING THIS MODEL YEAR TO RUST THROUGH. I DO NOT BELIEVE REPAIRING THE RUST DAMAGE IS MY FINANCIAL BURDEN TO BEAR WHEN THE REASON FOR THE RUST IS THE FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER. ANOTHER PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING IS THAT ALL OF THE LUG NUTS HAVE MOISTURE INSIDE OF THEM THAT IS CAUSING THEM TO SWELL. THEREFORE WHEN GOING TO TAKE ANY OF THE TIRES OFF, I AM UNABLE TO USE THE CORRECT SIZE SOCKET TOOL. THE APPROXIMATE COST TO REPLACE ALL OF THE LUG NUTS IS $250, ALL OF WHICH IS DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION ANOTHER COSTLY REPAIR WAS REQUIRED AT ONLY 90,000 WHEN THE ENGINE HEAD WAS FOUND TO BE WARPED/OUT OF TOLERANCE, WHICH RESULTED IN CYLINDERS MISFIRING. I HAD TO PAY ~$5,000 TO HAVE A MECHANIC IN MY AREA REPAIR THIS ISSUE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. OVERALL, WITH A TRUCK THAT HAS 96,000 MILES AND IS ONLY 13 YEARS OLD, THERE HAS BEEN AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF ISSUES AND MONEY SPENT ON FIXING PROBLEMS THAT DID NOT ORIGINATE FROM ME, BUT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ACTION TAKEN ON THE EXPENSIVE RUST PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING THAT DRASTICALLY LOWERS THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING BECAUSE OF THIS MANUFACTURING/ENGINEERING FLAW.
MY REAREND STARTED MAKING A LOUD BANG NOISE IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND IT'S THE BEARINGS I WAS TOLD VERY DANGEROUS I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE
Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AUTOMATIC SEAT ADJUSTER FAILED TO OPERATE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000. UPDATED 02/04/15*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAY ON. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT AND BACK REST WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD OR BACK. UPDATED 10/6/2015*JS
I BOUGHT THE TRUCK 10/29/10 WITH 22 K MILES ON IT AND HAVE 29950K NOW. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FRONT END, RACK AND PINION STEERING SYSTEM TIE ROD ENDS, LEAKY BACK WINDOW, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT, BALANCE AND ROTATE TIRES 3 TIMES, RAIL DUST, NEW CARPET, LEAKY THIRD LIGHT, NEW ROTORS AND BRAKES AT 24K, AIR CLEANER, WIPERS. I QUESTIONED THE FRONT END WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND WAS TOLD IT AS JUST TIRES OUT OF BALANCE. WHEN I PICKED IT UP AND ASKED IF THE FRONT END LOOKED GOOD BECAUSE I NOTICED THE FRONT TIE ROD ENDS HAD A LOT OF PLAY AND I WAS CONCERNED WITH ISSUES DUE TO THAT. I WAS TOLD THE FRONT END WAS FINE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. I LATER TOOK IT BACK AND HAD ALL THE FRONT STEERING COMPONENTS REPLACED. I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND HAD NO ALIGNMENT AND WAS TOLD THEY ONLY SET THE TOE. I HAD TO KEEP THE STEERING WHEEL A FULL HALF TURN TO THE LEFT TO GO STRAIGHT. I PAID FOR AN ALIGNMENT AND THE PRINTOUT SHOWED MY TOE WAS SET UNDER THE SPECIFICATIONS. I HAVE TIRED UNEVENLY WORN DUE TO BAD FRONT END COMPONENTS. I HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT HEAD LAMP REPLACED DUE TO CRACKING INSIDE THE LENS, A BACK SEAT THAT THE LATCH DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE BOLTS THAT NEEDED TIGHTENING DUE TO CARPET BEING REPLACED. I QUESTION HOW THIS VEHICLE WAS PROPERLY INSPECTED AND NONE OF THESE THINGS WERE NOTICED. I DRIVE MY DAUGHTER DAILY IN THIS VEHICLE AND IT REMAINS TO HAVE FRONT END PROBLEMS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND NOTICED A LOT OF ISSUES WITH CRASHES RELATING TO FAULTY FRONT ENDS ON THESE VEHICLES. IT CONTINUES TO REMAIN UNSAFE. *TR
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
