What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 Dodge Challenger, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle's engine has suffered a catastrophic internal failure at approximately 56,000 miles. The engine is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8. The issue began with a loud ticking noise from the engine. I brought the vehicle to Stoneridge Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Pleasanton for diagnosis. At that visit, the dealership lubricated an unspecified component and instructed me to continue driving. The ticking noise temporarily subsided. Shortly after, the check engine light illuminated. I returned the vehicle to the same dealership, where the technician retrieved diagnostic trouble code P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire). Upon further inspection, the technician found scoring on the cylinder 3 wall, a persistent loud ticking noise from the engine, and metal contamination in the engine oil sample. The dealership diagnosed the failure as requiring a complete engine long block replacement at a quoted cost exceeding $23,000. The powertrain warranty has expired based on the 3-year time limit; however, the vehicle has fewer than 56,000 miles, which is well below the warranty's mileage threshold and exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age. The vehicle has been properly maintained throughout ownership with regular oil changes and scheduled service intervals. No aftermarket modifications have been made; the engine and all related components remain factory stock. I contacted Stellantis customer care to request assistance. They stated that because the vehicle is no longer under warranty, there is nothing they can do, and that the dealership should have submitted a goodwill assistance request on my behalf. The dealership said they would look into it. A complete engine failure at this mileage on an engine marketed as a high-performance powerplant suggests a manufacturing or material defect rather than normal wear and tear.
42,000 miles drive shaft failure. Dealer stated drive shaft is ready to fall off. Completely stock vehicle, 1 owner.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.

My SHIFTER is messing up again recall U4 i believe and my its a recall on my vehicle ive had this vehicle for 2 years they stated the previous owner already had repaired but im imforming them i am still having the issue my car will literally stop going in the middle of the highway. Ive almost been close to getting in a accident and all everyone can say is it has already been repaired but i want them to understand that it may was repaired but it wasnt done correctly because something is wrong with my shifter/trasmission and electrical system. Which are both two valid recalls that i have. My shifter just blinks out of nowhere and just will stop at any moment. If the person behind me wasnt paying attention i couldve died or been harm seriously due to this keep happening while i am driving on the highway.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact then discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 138,160, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 222,348.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Back Up Camera is glitching and not detecting items behind me. I noticed that this item was a recall at one time but when I put my VIN it does not indicate a recall.
adaptive cruise and forward collision warning failed regularly for 10 months. dealers worked to find issue after having car in shop for collectively about 3 months. Dealer replaced parts, and finally determined it was a 4G adapter sold by Uconnect- a part of Dodge parent corp. Mopar tech's were aware of it, yet to my knowledge they still sell the 4G service. Use of the adapter with remote start disables FCW and ACC. I have pictures and documentation. They should stop selling this or fix software.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The back up camera cuts on and off and doesn’t work most of the time and then my abs and traction control light comes on and off
2015 challenger, wheel speed sensor failures starting at year two. Have replaced wheel speed sensors on 5 separate occasions. It has affected all wheel speed sensors and fron passenger replaced twice. All replacement parts are from dealer and are geniuine mopar replacements. Seems to be a very common issue, the parts are typically on backorder and it can be caused simply by going through a car wash.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
On [XXX], I was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision in Arkansas while driving my Dodge Challenger. The crash was severe enough that the vehicle was declared a total loss. Despite the severity of the collision and significant front-end damage, none of the airbags deployed at any point during the crash. As a result of the collision and the failure of the airbag system to deploy, I sustained physical injuries and required approximately nine months of medical treatment and physical therapy. Based on the severity of the impact and the level of damage to the vehicle, I believe the airbags should have deployed and that their failure may indicate a defect in the airbag system or crash detection sensors. I am submitting this complaint so the incident can be investigated as a potential safety defect. I am concerned that this issue could pose a serious safety risk to other drivers if the airbag system fails to deploy in similar collisions.
My car started giving warning signal on dashboard and would not function properly my car speed wouldn't stop and wouldn't break I ran off road and wrecked no other vehicles were involved and my airbag did not deploy when I wrecked no airbags came out but my computer is still showing airbag system needs service my airbags did no come out, the steering wheel cover popped off and the roof panels are popped out of seams but no air bags came out at all my cruise control is not working now and my seatbelt would not unlock when I wrecked now the seatbelt alarm will not stop going off even when it's buckled I'm now having electricel issues and service warnings that' came on before car wrecked are all still on I have had some body work fixed since wreck but stopped having things fixed from wreck on car because I'm scared to drive it now I feel unsafe I don't know what to expect I'm scared airbags are gonna pop out now since they already went off and nothing came out I have not had it checked or taking it to dealership since it's been in shop for some of the body work repair but I never finished repairs I spent 4200 in body work and more is needed but I'm scared to drive my car it's got to much crazy stuff going on all the dash readings are still showing and the reading for airbag that is still on
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.

Fuel tank fill side housing cracked.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
MY HEADLIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE KEEPS GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. IT'S OUT FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN IT COMES BACK ON FOR A FEW DAYS AND AGAIN IT'S OUT. THE DEALERSHIP DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT WAS GOOD.
THE FUSES THAT RUN TO BOTH MY LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHTS KEEP GETTING BURNT OUT .THEY BURNT OUT WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON .

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
I hadn’t on my car for very long when I stepped on the brakes and my passenger seat flew clear up to the dash. When I stopped and looked at it, they were little metal teeth all over the place underneath the seat. It won’t go all the way up and lock it will only go all the way back and semi lock. If there’s someone sitting in the passenger seat when I press on the brakes, it moves up a few inches and then back it will not lock completely
Passenger seat sliding mechanism not locking / latching properly. When coming to a stop the passenger seat will slide forward, sometimes an inch or two but sometimes further. This is a very well know issue I have discovered across multiple internet message boards and is due to inadequate slide bearings, and has been ongoing for years.

Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING GEAR, RACK LOST THE ELECTRIC ASSIST. ELECTRIC ASSIST FAILED, STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. THE ELECTRIC ASSIST MOTOR ADDS THE "POWER ASSISTANCE" TO THE STEERING MAKING IT EASY TO TURN THE STEERING . FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC ASSIST MAKES THE STEERING DRAMATICALLY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING EVEN THE SLIGHTEST. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE CAR OR EVEN PROVIDE ANY STEERING INPUT THAT CHANGES THE DIRECTION OF THE WHEELS IN ANY MEANINGFUL OR PURPOSEFUL WAY. FRANKLY LUCKY THAT I HAVE DRIVEN A MANUAL, NON POWER STEERING VEHICLE, IN THE PAST AND INSTANTLY RECOGNIZED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED, LUCKY TO HAVE NOT CRASHED AS IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AS STEERING IS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT, NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE, TO MANIPULATE THAN A TRADITIONAL NON-POWER ASSIST STEERING RACK. CAR WAS IN MOTION ON RURAL BACK ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER. WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT QUICKLY ACTIVATED THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON TO RESET THE COMPUTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTH CHICAGO DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP (7340 S WESTERN AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60636, (773) 476-7800) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY OR RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
I PURCHASED A 2015 CHALLENGER, UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME NOTICED THE AXLES MAKING A NOISE. A WEEK LATER THE NOISE BECOMES WORSE I ALERT THE DEALERSHIP AND BRING THE CAR IN. THEY TELL ME THAT IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY PROMISE THAT WHEN I FINALIZE FINANCING THE WILL FIX IT. UPON FINALIZING FINANCING THE CAR FAILS INSPECTION AND THE WARRANTY IS REMOVED DUE TO THE PREEXISTING ISSUES WITH THE CAR. THUS RESULTING REPAIR COST COMING OUT MY POCKET FOR A CAR I HADN'T HAD A WEEK. NEXT I RUN INTO A ISSUE THE WITH ENGINE. I TAKE IT TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC AND THE TECHNICIAN SHOWS ME THE HISTORY OF THE CAR STATING THAT IT HAD A REPLACEMENT ENGINE INSTALLED IN THE PAST. THE DEALER NEVER MENTIONED THE REPAIRS TO ME BEFORE FINALIZING THE DEAL ONCE SO EVER. NOW I BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION AND THEY'RE TELLING ME THAT I CAN TRADE IT IN BUT THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE DEALERSHIP IS RICK HENDRICKS CHEVROLET IN DULUTH GEORGIA, 3277 SATELLITE BLVD. THE DEALERSHIP GOES UP AND BEYOND TO AVOID ME, EVEN WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR REPAIRS FOR WEEKS. THEY NEVER FIXED ANYTHING IN THE CAR. I HAVE VIDEO PROOF OF THEM MESSING UP THE CAR AND JUST LEAVING IT FOR ME TO DEAL WITH. I ALSO HAVE VOICE RECORDED CONVERSATIONS WITH SALES ASSOCIATE MANAGERS AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO LIED TO ME AND MY FATHER IN OUR FACES ABOUT CERTAIN INFORMATION REGARDING THE DEAL.
MY 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER SCAT PACK HAS DEVELOPED A RADIATOR LEAK THAT SEEMS TO LOSE COOLANT WHEN DRIVING. I HAD FIRST NOTICED THE COOLANT LEVEL DROPPING BACK IN DECEMBER, 2017 WHILE MY CAR WAS IN STORAGE. IT WAS BROUGHT INTO FIELDS DODGE WHO DIAGNOSED THE LEAK BUT COULD NOT TELL ME WHERE EXACTLY THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. I CALLED DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY REFUSED TO OFFER ANYTHING ON RESOLVING THIS ISSUE EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY EXPIRED 3 DAYS AGO ON MARCH 12TH, 2018. THEY DO HAVE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING RADIATOR LEAK PROBLEMS BUT THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT, EVEN FOR CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE LOW MILEAGE BUT EXPIRED WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER MENTIONED THE LEAK MAY BE COMING FROM A SEAM BETWEEN THE PLASTIC AND ALUMINUM. THE RADIATOR IS OF INFERIOR QUALITY AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHERS ON CHALLENGER FORUMS WHO HAVE MENTIONED RADIATOR PROBLEMS ON THEIR CHALLENGERS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT SLID FORWARD. TRI LAKES MOTORS DEALER OF BRANSON, MISSOURI WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT TRACK BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

THE EXHAUST HAS BEEN CUT OFF AND RE-ATTACHED LEAKING VERY BAD. HAS FLARED UP MY ASTHMA CAUSING ATTACK WHILE DRIVING, FIRST TIME I STOP AT FIRE STATION FOR BREATHING TREATMENT, NEXT TWO TIMES DROVE TO ER. THE CAR HAS BEEN ILLEGALLY ALTERED AND SHOULD NEVER BEEN SOLD TO ME AS A BRAND NEW CAR . I HAVE PICTURES TO SEND IN SHOWING THE DANGEROUS SITUATION TO ME AND ALL DRIVERS ON THE ROAD . I WILL SEND PICTURES AND A VIDEO OF THE BOTTOM OF ENTIRE CAR. I PURCHASED CAR AT A CERTIFIED NEW CAR DEALERSHIP, THIS IS HOW THEY SOLD IT TO ME < THEIR GREED IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. ...*BF..

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, while attempting to fasten the passenger’s side seat belt, the seat belt failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the retractor mechanism had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
the seat belts in the rear are guided through a metal D ring that has a plastic housing. This housing cracks and prevents the seat belts from retracting. This issue relays to most dodge, jeep chrysler products that all utilize the same part for front and rear seat belts. The issue has been acknowledged for front seat belts but not rear.

From owner reports, verbatim
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, THE OEM LUG WRENCH DID NOT FIT CORRECTLY INTO THE LUG HOLES. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REMOVING A TIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TWO OF THE VEHICLES WHEELS HAVE STARTED TO STRESS CRACK ON THE INNER WHEEL LIP CAUSING AIR TO LEAK, AS SEEN IN THE PICTURES THE WHEELS HAVE NO DAMAGE TO CAUSE THE WHEELS TO CRACK AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THE INTERNET BY OTHER 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER OWNERS WITH THE FACTORY OEM WHEELS STAMPED MOPAR LIGHTWEIGHT ON THE OUTSIDE FACE. THE WHEELS WERE TAKEN TO THE SELLING DEALER FOR WARRANTY, THEY AGREE THAT THE WHEELS ARE DEFECTIVE, BUT FCA HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THEM UNDER WARRANTY, THE VEHICLE IS 26 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 25K MILES ON IT. THE WHEELS CRACKING IN THIS WAY CAN CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC WHEELS FAILURE RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH AND OR INJURY.
