2025 Dodge Charger EV Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2025 Dodge Charger EV, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The vehicles center screen periodically will freeze randomly, often when first turning the vehicle on. Often, I am reversing the vehicle in this situation and screen will show a frozen image of the back-up camera or the back-up camera will not be available at all.

I purchased this 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona new on March 24, 2026. Shortly after purchase, the vehicle began experiencing repeated serious safety-related electrical and propulsion failures. The most concerning incidents involve sudden loss of propulsion/power while driving. On one occasion, the vehicle lost propulsion while I was traveling on the freeway, leaving me in active traffic unable to accelerate normally and creating a serious risk of a collision. I also experienced an incident involving abnormal/unintended acceleration where I did not have normal control over the vehicle's acceleration, creating an additional safety concern. The vehicle has also failed to start, displayed Service Electric Vehicle System/red wrench warnings, experienced charging failures, and entered reduced-power conditions. The vehicle first entered a Dodge dealer for these problems on April 23, 2026 at only 1,163 miles. The repair record states the vehicle would not start for approximately 20 minutes, would sometimes turn off while driving, had drastic range loss, and had trouble charging. It remained at the dealer until June 1. The vehicle returned for repeated loss-of-power concerns. During a June repair visit, it was towed to the dealership following another loss-of-power complaint. Dodge opened a STAR engineering case and a field engineer became involved. Additional faults have included a red wrench warning, front wheel-hub disconnect faults and a condition restricting the vehicle to approximately 60 mph. The vehicle later returned with a Service Electric Vehicle System warning and no power, and has continued experiencing charging/electrical failures. Repeated dealership repair attempts and software updates, the problems have continued. Is has accumulated over 130 days out of service despite having approximately only 2,000 miles. Concerned that another sudden loss of propulsion or acceleration-control event could occur without warning at highway speeds. Available for inspection.

Serious Loss-of-Propulsion Safety Incident Shortly before [XXX], [XXX] was driving on [XXX], a divided four-lane roadway. [XXX] entered the designated left-turn lane intending to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic and enter a shopping center. After allowing approaching vehicles to clear and determining that he had sufficient distance to safely complete the turn, [XXX] accelerated into the intersection. While he was crossing the oncoming lanes, the vehicle suddenly displayed a large warning accompanied by a red triangle stating: “STOP SAFELY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF SOON.” The vehicle then lost normal propulsion and effectively stopped in the middle of the roadway while oncoming traffic was approaching. [XXX] pressed the accelerator completely to the floor. The vehicle responded only by moving forward at a slow crawl. [XXX] was ultimately able to clear the roadway before being struck. The contact owns a 2025 Dodge Charger EV. While reversing, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart. Additionally, the instrument cluster indicated that the transmission was switching gears, but the vehicle had completely stopped. The failure caused the contact to sustain whiplash and a herniated disc, for which medical attention was received. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on four separate occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and it was determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer sent an engineer to the dealer to inspect the vehicle; however, the contact was not provided a report. The failure mileage was 5,989.

battery pack control module, telematic box module, brake system control module, driver and passenger door latch module, ADAS camera module. I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden, I lost all power (limp mode), a turtle light came on the dash then alot of other lights came on. Then as I'm trying to get off the freeway, I am on my brakes and it sounds like I was throttling and the power was full force. This is definitely a safety issue.

1. car flashed text on dash "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon". this was when it was 'off' (vehicle was stuck not in park and it was unclear if engine was on or off, but could not shift gears or move car). I'm concerned the vehicle has electric failures and I drive a lot and with children on highways. Warnings for transmission, electric kept cycling. 2. safety was it was a big parking lot with families walking in front/ around my car with baseball fields in front for over 2 hours. 3. car is waiting for dealership to reproduce or confirm, but the car was towed yesterday but I was told its starting today. this car has multiple open cases for re-occuring problems with electric. 4. no prior warnings except intermittent service engine soon that would be on for a day, then off for a day a few times (had an appointment scheduled to assess but then this bigger problem occurred).

UPDATE: I have been trying to work with Gresham Dodge to return my car and trade it. They refuse to help me and Stellantis refuses to help me. They want me to eat all the money. They refuse to meet me half way on a new car. DO NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. You will eventually regret it. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the US Consumer Protection Agency. UPDATE: The car has now been serviced nine times! Twice for the braking system, because we couldn’t stop, I almost got in an accident.iIt’s had many other issues! Still have never heard back from anyone at Gresham Dodge! Not one person! Stellantis refuses to take the car back. It’s been out of service over forty days all together over the six months I’ve had it. So, it sits in the driveway rotting. I will not drive it. I will not put my life or anyone else’s in danger. I’m making payments on a car I can’t drive! It’s imparitive that no one purchase from this slimly dealership! I’ll be reporting them to the BBB and the State Attorney General.Do not purchase your vehicle here. Sales are not knowledgeable on the cars they are selling. They just want a sale and you gone, so they can move on to the next person. I didn’t even have my car 24 hours and it had to go back for service. I will say, they were attentive, but only because they wanted a sale. They know nothing about how the cars functions. I got a text from the Service Advisor saying if I needed anything to let him know. Then a week later another problem popped up. I have text from the Service Advisor saying he would get me in on a specific day. We took the car in and he turned us away and said they were too busy. We wanted a fully loaded car. Sales never told us of any upgraded packages that the car could come with. We asked. They were only interested in offing what they had on the lot. I love the car, but this particular model comes with an upgraded package that I didn’t know about until having to watch You Tube videos to learn how to work

2025 Dodge Charger EV | VIN: [XXX] | Purchased: April 11, 2026 | Dealer: Thunder Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Bartow, FL I am reporting multiple active, unresolved safety system failures that began within 24 hours of purchase and remain unrepaired after two dealer visits. On April 15–16, 2026, the dealer documented NINE fault codes across FIVE modules, including an active Electronic Throttle Module fault that would not clear — a direct risk of unintended acceleration or loss of speed control. Additional active alerts included ABS failure, brake system failure, airbag system failure, suspension failure, and blind spot system failure. The only repair performed was a software flash. No safety systems were physically repaired. Alerts returned May 2, 2026. Pre-sale service history (undisclosed at sale) shows five battery-charging failures, a July 2025 software fault, and a complete no-start event on December 18, 2025 requiring updates to four electronic modules. A post-purchase repair invoice (April 2025) also documents a Collision Thrust Angle Alignment — a frame geometry procedure performed after structural impact — raising concerns about airbag deployment zone integrity. I just had gotten my 2025 Dayton R/T EV and i was on the highway in my first drive…. Enjoying the hell out of my experience. I had driven abt 12 miles. Even got a powershot in when i had a free right away in the highway and man… 😔😞☹️ im so saddend to share that a car got over on my car and completely swiped the right side, then got over in front of me and slammed on their brakes…. All at 65 mph. Man… my car’s sensors didnt help at all and my airbags didnt deploy. My sensors never detected the car on the right getting close or that it slammed on brakes…. All my sensors are still green in the car, but my abs and other lights are on. Airbags didnt deploy crashing st 65 mph snd I stopped breathing for a few minutes the other driver snd passengers said. All I saw was the csr slam on brakes and then I woke up with 5 cops and 2 ems bombarding me with questions I had no clue to answer as my head was dizzy. Once I got to my senses they asked why my air bags didnt deploy and if it was a 2025 ev how did i get brake checked with security sensors and regen brakes. And I cant answer that only dodge can… ☹️ man im devesated. My car is also still registered to dodge… so when I went to the impound and shiwed them my info they told me I couldnt get the car out even with me showing them my welcoming emails apps etc. so now the car is stuck there. Racking up a crap ton of daily fees. Starting today. And I csnt even get the csr out if I tried. Now my payments. The storage fees. And to fix the vehicle as my deslership didnt add the car they switched me in because the one i signed for had problems to my policy. They left the one I never left the dealership with and I gave me the new one without asking or inquiring abt insurance for the new vin… please help me guys. My lifes falling apart but im keeping my head up.. my right shouoder blade snd bsck is such a mess. Even after the hospital.

While driving on Route 130 in New Jersey on 7/6/26 at around noon I encountered a heavy rain storm. During this downpour I received warning messages about the emergency hood release being activated and that the car was entering limp mode with reduced propulsion. My car slowed to a crawl, luckily everyone was going slower thanks to the heavy rain and I was able to pull over to attempt to close the hood. It took around ten tries but I was finally able to get it to shut so I could drive home safely. This has happened before after a car wash so I suspect that there is some sort of electrical issue or short causing the hood to release when exposed to water.

Interior & seats

his vehicle is a two-door, five-passenger Dodge Charger equipped with the power Rear Seat Easy Entry feature. Because the vehicle only has two doors, the driver’s seat must automatically move forward toward the steering wheel to provide access for passengers entering or exiting the rear seat. There is a serious safety defect with this system. When the driver’s seat is moved forward using the Easy Entry feature, the seat travels toward the steering wheel as intended. However, when it reaches the forward position, the seat can suddenly and automatically travel rearward even though a passenger may still be in the process of entering or exiting the rear seating area. The seat moves rearward with significant force and does not adequately detect or stop for a person who may be in its path. A rear-seat passenger can be positioned directly behind the front seat when this unexpected movement occurs. The moving seat can pin or crush the passenger between the front seat and the rear seating/interior area. This is especially dangerous for children, who may take longer to enter or exit the rear seat and may not be able to react quickly enough when the seat unexpectedly begins moving rearward. This is not simply an inconvenience with the power seat. It creates a potential entrapment and crushing hazard during the normal and necessary process of entering or exiting the rear seats of a two-door, five-passenger vehicle. The unexpected rearward movement also appears inconsistent with the intended operation of the Rear Seat Easy Entry system. Dodge’s owner’s manual describes the seat automatically moving forward to provide rear-seat access and describes obstacle detection as part of the system. Despite this, the seat can unexpectedly return rearward while the rear-seat access area is still occupied. There also appears to be manufacturer service information addressing Easy Entry seats that move forward and then unexpectedly move rearward before the seatback is returned.

The contact owns a 2025 Dodge Charger EV. The contact stated that shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the doors and hatch back door failed to open immediately. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed and determined that the door sensors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Additionally, while driving into an intersection, the vehicle suddenly shut off with oncoming vehicles approaching. The vehicle was restarted and immediately experienced unintended acceleration and nearly caused a crash with several other vehicles. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet been determined. The failure mileage was 100.

I drove to Regal Cinema Hacienda Crossing for a 3:20 PM movie. Upon returning to the car, I noticed extremely slow and inconsistent responses from both the accelerator and the brake, making the vehicle nearly uncontrollable. I decided to drive cautiously toward the Stoneridge Dodge Service Center via [XXX] and exited at [XXX] . At the intersection of [XXX] and [XXX] , I stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the car failed to move forward despite pressing the accelerator. After several seconds, it suddenly surged forward uncontrollably, and when I pressed the brake, the response was delayed—the car continued moving into the intersection before it abruptly stopped. Fortunately, there was no collision, but the situation could easily have resulted in a serious accident. I parked nearby to inspect the vehicle and observed a yellow battery warning light on the dashboard and also a red word warning "the car is not ready to drive". After shutting off the car, I heard a mechanical noise lasting about 30 seconds. When I restarted it and shifted into reverse, the car instead moved forward slowly. After turning the engine off and restarting again, the warning light disappeared and the car seemed to return to normal. Given the danger, I chose to drive home slowly rather than continue to the service center. I feel this is a very serious incident that worth to report, to avoid the same issue that might have happened at other drivers' side. Besides the above issue, this car had been experienced 4 times false engine start up, I sent the car to Dodge service, they said they cannot duplicate the error so they returned my car and the leasing company Stellantis dispute the repurchase requirement. I suspect it was the charger issue(the charger also provided by Stellantis), I stop using the charger at home but only use the public charger. The issue happened on [XXX] Friday afternoon. Now I stopped use this car anymore. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I leased a brand-new 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona EV. About 2 weeks after receiving the vehicle, a severe and dangerous incident occurred. I had driven approximately 2 miles at normal residential speeds with my baby in the back seat. After parking and walking toward the entrance of the home, I turned around and saw both rear wheels glowing bright red, radiating extreme heat, as if they were about to ignite. The temperature was so high that when I poured water onto the wheels, it instantly evaporated into steam. It appeared the back end of the vehicle was on the verge of catching fire. This happened during normal, low-speed driving with an infant in the vehicle, creating a direct and immediate risk to my child’s safety. This was not caused by hard braking, aggressive driving, or any impact. The vehicle had very low mileage and was being operated under normal conditions. In addition to this near-fire thermal event, the vehicle has multiple serious electrical malfunctions: • The key fob frequently fails to unlock the doors or open the trunk, leaving us stuck outside the vehicle. • The vehicle sometimes remains powered “on” even after pressing the button to shut it off. • These issues are unpredictable and raise further safety concerns. I reported the incident to Dodge/Stellantis immediately. For over 4 weeks, Dodge has repeatedly delayed sending an inspector, and the vehicle still has not been examined. Because of the overheating, electrical failures, and the risk of fire — especially with a child in the vehicle — I have stopped driving the car entirely. It is unsafe to operate. This appears to be a major defect related to the EV propulsion system, electrical system, braking or drag, and/or thermal management system. I have video evidence of the event and the vehicle is available for inspection.
