1997 Dodge Dakota Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I AM IN VICTORIA, BC CANADA, BUT THIS VEHICLE IS BUILT IN THE US. THE FEMALE PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT USES THE SHEATH AS A GUIDE. THIS IS HELD IN PLACE BY A WEAK PLASTIC CLIP. EVENTUALLY THIS CLIP DETERIOTATES AND THE SHEATH SLIPS DOWN, NO LONGER FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AS A QUIDE AND ONE IS ABLE TO INSERT THE SEATBELT BETWEEN THE MECHANISM AND THE GUIDE THINKING IT IS DONE UP, WHICH IT ISN'T. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL. BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S HAVE FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. LUCKILY, I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK
