Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

FORMAL COMPLAINT Safety Recall 94B (NHTSA Campaign No. 24V-838) I hereby submit this complaint regarding the failure to properly complete Safety Recall 94B (NHTSA Campaign No. 24V-838) involving the HCU/ABS module on my 2018 Dodge Durango. On December 23, 2025, I contacted an authorized Dodge dealer located at 5404 S. Illinois Route 31, Crystal Lake, IL 60012, to remedy the HCU/ABS defect under the recall. I was informed that the recall repair would be performed free of charge and an appointment was scheduled for December 29, 2025. At the scheduled visit, the vehicle was returned to me in less than 30 minutes without any recall repair being performed. Instead, I was told that paid diagnostics were required and that the estimated repair cost could range from $3,000 to $5,000. I was also informed that the recall repair could not be completed because the HCU/ABS module was not in stock. The dealer later stated that the module would be ordered, but the delivery timeline was repeatedly postponed. On January 27, 2026, the vehicle was returned to me with the same HCU/ABS-related malfunctions. The dealer stated that Recall 24V-838 / FCA 94B had been closed and refused to replace the HCU/ABS module under the recall. Although FCA systems reflect the recall as “completed,” the safety defect has not been remedied. The vehicle continues to display ABS/ESC warnings, and diagnostic trouble codes related to the braking and electronic stability control systems remain present, confirming that the defect described in the recall persists. Pursuant to 49 U.S.C. § 30118(b) and 49 CFR § 573.6(c)(10), when a safety defect persists or reoccurs after recall repairs, the manufacturer is required to implement additional corrective measures, including repeat repair or replacement of the affected component or system. Closing a recall while the defect remains unresolved does not satisfy federal requirements. I respectfully request regulatory review and appropriate action to ensure that thi

I had a water pump go out and my battery died while fixing it but when I gave it a jump and started it my ABS and stability lights were on and haven’t turned off. It’s been over a year since they turned on. There is a recall for this on 2022 models why does it not apply to my vehicle?

While driving on the highway, the computer system shut down and all screens went black. The car still drove but none of the controls worked anymore. We could not roll the windows down or turn the fans or a/c on and it was summer so the interior of the car immediately became unbearably hot. We pulled over as soon as it was safe to do so and turned the car off and back on. The system came on partially and we were only able to open the sunroof and roll the rear windows down half way before it stopped working again. We tried cycling the car on and off several more times but the computer system and all controls remained unresponsive and the screens black. The door locks did not work either so we couldn’t secure the vehicle. It was Sunday so no dodge dealerships were open. We were on a family vacation and half way to our destination so we drove an additional 3-4 hours to reach our destination. I took the Durango to the dealership the following day and they kept it for a week. They disconnected and reconnected the battery cable and the system worked again and they could not replicate the problem. We drove home after that without issue. Two weeks later, the same thing happened. This time, I pulled over and disconnected and reconnected the battery cables and that seemed to solve the issue again. We took it back to our local dealership and they could not replicate the issue.

I received recall 22V-426, the dealer reflashed my vehicle but the problem still exists. My brake lights stay on, stability, auto park, traction control and engine lights come on. The dealer now says I need to replace the exact part listed in recall at my own cost. My state inspection has expired and fails a new safety inspection due to this problem.

The LCD Screen for my computer has an awkward spot in the top right corner when I bought my vehicle (which only had a very few miles on it). I thought it was just cosmetic and didn't worry much about it. Eventually, the awkward spot spread into a crack across the top of the screen. I have read online that this is a known problem that occurs on many of the vehicles of the same year and make. The screen began to perform on its own, it pushes multiple buttons constantly. This is more than an irritation it is a safety hazard for my family. The screen controls my heat and air, it turns the heat up and down, from hot to cold and hot again. I cannot defrost my windshield, as the air flow continues to switch from blower to blower. The seat warmers turn on and off. I am unable to control them, and my passengers can be burned. My backup camera does not function properly effecting the safety of everyone around us. The screen has pushed emergency call more than once. and totally controls my phone making calls and randomly hanging up on calls as well as muting or turning on and off apps. This is very dangerous for me, as the driver, trying to grab my phone and stop the emergency calls and other things. I cannot start my car using the auto start to warm up and defrost because the vehicle will not stay on defrost it will continuously switch around. The uconnect usually warns me of traffic hazards and storms in my area, as well as posting the speed limit and directions on the screen. Without these items, I put myself and my passengers at risk each time we are in the car. According to many dodge, durango, and general safety forums and blogs I have read, this is a common problem in this vehicle. This should be a safety recall for many reasons. How can I make a claim to get this replaced at no cost.

I was driving on I75 North in Florida near Ocala (exit 358) traveling about 70mph when I approached slowing traffic. I attempted a slow and steady stop without slamming on the brakes. The emergency braking system engaged but the vehicle failed to stop and I was not able to completely floor the brakes. In an effort to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me and causing a multiple car collision I swerved onto the grassy side of the road. Because the car would not stop completely my passenger front wheel made contact with a concrete ditch and my vehicle flipped over resulting in a total loss.

This is the 4th time in 2 weeks that the ABS system freaked. I was driving and reached 70mph and it randomly will start slowing kick on the check engine light. Blinks and then throws on the abs warning light. This has happened in summer and the 1 time it has rained day before. The system than alerted me to start/stop engine turn off and turn back on. I did do this. This happens though WHEN I am driving. The sensors go off, a few days later. It will happen again. This is extremely dangerous ! I made a video of it this past time

Crash reported
on May13th I was slowly pulling into my garage : as I was slowly easing my foot off the brake (but still in contact with the brake pedal), the car suddenly accelerated. I pressed my foot hard on the brake but was unable to stop the car. It was traveling very slowly with only about 5 feet to go when it suddenly accelerated. It struck the water heater which is situated against the rear wall of the garage with enough force to make my neck and shoulders hurt. There was a rubber trash can in front of the heater that may have absorbed some impact. There was a dent in the bumper. Inside the house, on the other side of the wall, the paint and plaster were cracked and somewhat displaced and a bureau pushed away from the wall. This acceleration happened without any warning. This also happened to my 2015 Dodge Durango in Feb 2019. The situation was almost identical; I was almost done pulling into the garage with my foot lightly on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated and struck the water heater, denting it and causing mor extensive damage to 2 walls inside the house. I had my own mechanic and the dealer evaluate that car and they couldn't find anything wrong. I did see reports of this happening to other 2015 Durangos at low speed. We traded in the 2015 Durango to the dealer because of the accident and their assurance that they'd never seen this happen (at the time it wasn't reported in any 2018 Durangos) and we bought the 2018 Durango that was involved in the May 13 acceleration. I plan to call the dealer but am not sure how to remedy the problem

I GOT THE CAR WITH 100 MILES ON IT AND THESE PROBLEMS CONTINUE.... KROGER'S AND MANY OTHER GAS STATION PUMPS KICK OFF WHILE FUELING. I HAVE TRIED PULLING THE NOZZLE OUT SOME, SQUEEZING THE TRIGGER LESS, ETC & THEY STILL KICK THE PUMP OFF. IT LITERALLY TAKES 10 MINS TO PUMP $20 WORTH OF GAS. ALSO, I HAVE A SLIGHT DELAY WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL FROM A STOP SIGN, ETC. ITS LIKE A SECOND DELAY THEN ITS LIKE IT DECIDES TO GO AHEAD & GO. RADIO/CONTROL SCREEN HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED DUE TO IT GOING TO A FULL BLACK SCREEN & FULL BLUE SCREEN, SHUTTING OFF, ETC. HOWEVER, EVEN THE NEW RADIO STILL LOSES THE PROGRAMMED STATION SETTINGS.

I WENT THROUGH CHEETAH CAR WASH WITH MY 2018 DODGE DURANGO AND UPON EXITING THE CAR WASH AND RECEIVING GREEN SIGNAL TO DRIVE I SHIFTED FROM "N" TO "D" AND STARTED SLOWLY DRIVING TOWARD THE VACUUM CLEANING AREA. AS I WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT THE POST AND BUILDING, CAUSING IT TO STOP. I CALLED THE POLICE TO THE SCENE AND THEY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO BASHAM TOWING SERVICE IN BOWLING GREEN, KY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS VEHICLE FOR MECHANICAL FAILURE, BECAUSE IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON INTERSTATE, THIS COULD HAVE ENDED WAY WORSE. I FOUND INFORMATION ONLINE THAT DODGE DURANGO HAS BEEN HAVING A NUMBER OF SIMILAR ISSUES. HTTP://WWW.CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/DODGE/DURANGO/CAR-ACCELERATES-ON-ITS-OWN-PROBLEMS.PHP

I GOT THE CAR BECAUSE OF ITS RADIO AND SYSTEM. NOW I HAVE A $50,000 CAR AND I CANT DRIVE IT BUT I STILL HAVE TO PAY AT THE END OF THE MONTH. THAT IS NOT RIGHT AND I NEED SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
