2006 Dodge Magnum Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Dodge Magnum, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

This is the second time I have been stuck on the side of the road showing that my car has a quarter tank of gas and it just dies on me. I was rescued with some fuel and it started right back up again. Upon checking for recalls for this issue, I came across some 2005 to 2006 Dodge magnums or chargers with fuel tank recalls. I called Chrysler and they are saying my vin does not apply to the fuel tank recall. How is it, I am having the same exact issue as those vin’s affected by this recall. I think it is something to look into. I have gone on Dodge forums and read people’s stories about the same issue as I am having and I am sure they are unaware of the steps they can take with the NHTSA to file a complaint where an investigation could be imminent. Please advise. This has happened more than once so now I consider an empty tank when I am at a quarter tank reading on my gas meter.

vehicle engine codes were all corrected properly in hopes of fixing the stalling issues. the vehicle was seemingly better for a few days. upon driving the vehicle on the highway at normal highway speed, the vehicle suddenly began flickering and shutting off and on. the vehicle would shut off and on rapidly. each time the vehicle turned back on it would accelerate causing the vehicle to jolt forward and stop rapidly. the car would not allow me to brake safely. the vehicle behind was within inches of a collision but their quick response to slam on their brakes and swerved to the shoulder thankfully missed. this is not an isolated event. speaking to other hemi 5.7 vehicle owners this is a very common issue. I had a baby in a carseat in the backseat who was jolted around slamming the back of his head into his car seat. this is so dangerously unsafe. not dealership can find the problem even after replacing every part possible on these vehicles.

Air bag light was flashing and contact Dodge multiple times to inquire and fix recall however all I was offered was a gift card but no sort of transaction while vehicle was being fixed and was told I would receive follow up to make arrangements to get everything fixed however never had received any follow up and finally like I had told and showed the dealer probably the bag was going to deploy luckily I was the only person in the vehicle the passenger side airbag deployed and caused me to go off road into rail totaling vehicle it was no injuries or damages to any other property however vehicle was total loss and had a car person pick it up so I wouldn’t occur any cost leaving vehicle abandoned or in a storage facility when I contacted recall customer care for dodge and told them what happened now their excuse is a investigation however before this incident they have had ample time and many opportunities to check the vehicle just to be pushed off with a bunch of excuses to not provide ample conversation for inconvenience and the losses accrued due to their Faulty unsafe vehicle that could have cost someone life due to donor drive recall

THIS CAR WENT IN FOR A COOLING FAN RECALL IN LATE JULY. AT THE SAME TIME, THE 60,000 MILE TRANSMISSION SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE WITH HOW IT SHIFTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY ON AN IRREGULAR BASIS. WE LEFT ON VACATION A WEEK LATER AND JUST RETURNED SEPT. 8TH. I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION WAS WORSE, SO I CALLED THE GARAGE TO TAKE IT IN. I WAS JUST TOLD THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS BAD, PROBABLY BECAUSE OF A WATER LEAK IN THE DIPSTICK. THE SERVICE GUY TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER HAS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM ON MANY CARS. MY SUSPICION: WHY DID IT GO OUT IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEING SERVICED AT ROSS CHRYSLER IN BOONE, NC. IF THERE ARE MULTIPLE WATER LEAKS, CHRYSLER SHOULD BE SHARING WITH THE COST ($1600) TO REPLACE THE CONVERTER. AM I BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BECAUSE I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN. ADD WATER TO THE TRANSMISSION WHILE BEING WORKED ON, AND IT RUINS THE CONVERTER. *KB

VEHICLE STALLED SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING WHEN BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE AFTER HAVING BEEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTION. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR REGULARLY AFTER REFUELING. IT OCCURRED BOTH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND ALSO WHILE IN MOTION. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE WAS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE FREQUENTLY SURGED WHILE DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES OF OPERATION UNTIL RETURNING TO NORMAL. THIS PROBLEM AND ITS ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY RISK. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY 2014. AT TIME OF PURCHASE ALL 4 WHEELS WERE SHOWING OBVIOUS SIGNS OF SIGNIFICANT CORROSION AROUND THE CENTER CAP, LUG NUT AREA AND ALONG THE BEAD OF THE RIM. ALL TIRES MAINTAIN PROPER INFLATION. I JUST RECENTLY ATTENDED AN ALL CHRYSLER CAR SHOW AND WHILE ADMIRING OTHER MAGNUMS ON DISPLAY I NOTICED SEVERAL OF THEM HAD THE SAME CORROSION IN THE SAME LOCATIONS AS MINE. I AM NOT A METALLURGIST AND DO NOT KNOW IF THIS CONDITION WILL, OR HAS, AFFECTED THE INTEGRITY OF THE ALLOY MATERIAL USED IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THESE RIMS BUT IT SEEMS TO ME, IF THIS PROBLEM IS LEFT UNADDRESSED IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CREATE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. *TR

(UNABLE TO CONTROL STEERING AND BRAKE). LOST CONTROL WENT OFF THE ROAD INSTANTLY HIT A TREE AND SPUN SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL I HIT ANOTHER TREE,AND THAT IS WHAT MADE THE VEHICLE CRASH AND COME TO A STOP. *TR

(TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE TIPM) ONE MORNING I TRIED TO START MY CAR. THE CAR ACTED IF THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, SO I JUMPED THE CAR. AFTER I JUMPED THE CAR I NOTICED THAT MY ESP/BAS LIGHT WAS ON. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO GET TO WORK. AS I LEFT MY HOUSE I TRIED TO USE MY TURN SIGNALS. THEY DID NOT TURN ON. I TRIED TO USE MY WIND SHIELD WIPERS AND THEY DID NOT WORK EITHER. THIS IS ALARMING BECAUSE THESE ARE A COUPLE OF SAME ATTRIBUTES THAT MAKE A CAR SAFE. AFTER MORE INVESTIGATION THE FOLLOWING THINGS STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. HORN CRUISE CONTROL FRONT WINDOWS TURN SIGNALS SO ALL OF MY MAJOR COMPONENTS THAT ALLOW ME TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER DRIVERS STOPPED WORKING ALL AT ONCE. I WENT TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NOT A UNCOMMON PROBLEM AND THAT THE COST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE AROUND $1200-$1000. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, THE SERVICE WRITER WAS NOT FAR OFF WHEN HE SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. AFTER READING PAGE, AFTER PAGE, AFTER PAGE OF FORUMS OF "CHRYSLER " OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. FURTHER MORE THERE IS A LAWSUIT AGAINST CHRYSLER FOR PUTTING FAULTY PARTS ON THEIR VEHICLES WITHOUT ANY SORT OF RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD CONSIDERING, IF THIS COMMON FAULTY PART GOES OUT, SO DOES MOST OF YOUR VISUAL AND AUDIO COMMUNICATION INDICATORS ON YOUR VEHICLE. *TR
