What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2011 Ducati 1198, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

THE STARTER CLUTCH IN MANY DUCATI 848 / 1098 AND 1198 SPORT BIKES FAIL PREMATURELY AROUND 4 - 6 K MILES AND AGAIN WHEN BEING REPAIRED. THIS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES BY NOW. IF NOT ACKNOWLEDGED AND REPAIRED IT CAN CAUSE THE ENTIRE ENGINE TO FAIL AT ANY SPEED AND BLOCK THE REAR TIRE. THERE ARE MANY OWNER OF SAID MOTORCYCLES EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE BUT DUCATI HAS STILL NOT MADE IT A RECALL. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH FOR "DUCATI STARTER CLUTCH" OR "DUCATI STARTER SPRAG" REVELS MANY FORUM POSTS FROM AFFECTED CUSTOMERS. I ASKED DUCATI IF THEY HAVE REVISED THE STARTER CLUTCH IN ORDER TO PREVENT FUTURE PROBLEMS BUT DID NOT GET AN ANSWER MASKING ME BELIEVE THAT THEY KEEP IGNORING THIS ISSUE. I WILL SELL MY 1198 BECAUSE I'M NOT WILLING TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE WITH A RECURRING SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
