1999 Ducati 900FE Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I HAVE A DUCATI 1999 900SS MOTORCYCLE. THE GAS TANK LEAKS GAS FROM WHERE THE REAR HINGE AND TANK ARE WELDED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM BEAUSE THE GAS LIQUID AND FUMES ARE EXTREMELY FLAMABLE AND DRIP ON AND NEAR THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST WHICH GET EXTREMELY HOT UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. THIS COULD EASILY CAUSE A FIRE. FOR CLOSE TO A YEAR BEVERLY HILLS DUCATI WAS UNAWARE OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM AND THEIR ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO PURCHASE A NEW TANK. BEVERLY HILLS DUCATI IS NOW AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEIR RECOMNDATION IS TO HAVE THE TANK WELDED. I PERSONALLY KNOW FOUR OTHER 99 SUPERSPORT OWNERS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM LEAK. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED REGADING THIS PROBLEM THAT IS A RESULT OF A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE HINGE AND GAS TANK. WILL A RECALL BE ISSUED FOR THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM? MUST DUCATI PAY TO HAVE THE CRITICAL REPAIR MADE? *AK

FRAME IS CRACKING. CALLED DUCATI. THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE FRAME BUT I HAVE TO PAY LABOR ($690). DUCATI IS WELL AWARE OF PROBLEMS WITH THE 900 SERIES FRAME. THEY SAY GIVING ME A NEW FRAME IS IN GOOD FAITH, I FEEL THEY SHOULD COVER ALL CHARGES. IF THEY SAY THAT THIS IS AN ISOLATED CASE, WHY ARE SO MANY FRAMES CRACKING? WHY ARE THE REPLACEMENT FRAMES REINFORCED. DUCATI IS SAYING THAT THIS IS A "GOOD WILL" WARANTY AND ARE NOT PAYING LABOR CHARGES. I FEEL (ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS VIA THE INTERNET WITH THE SAME PROBLEM) DUCATI SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE. A WARRENTY COVERS WEAR/MAINTENENCE ITEMS, BUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE BIKE HAS FAILED. THERE'S NO TELLING HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ENDANGERING THEIR LIVES BY RIDING AROUND ON BROKEN FRAMES THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SITUATION, NOT A "GOOD FAITH" WARRANTY.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
