2013 Ducati Hypermotard Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2013 Ducati Hypermotard, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

WHILE RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE ON THE FREEWAY, IT EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. THIS WAS UPON ROLLING OFF THE THROTTLE, WHEREUPON THE MOTORCYCLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. RIDER HAD TO USE THE IGNITION CUT-OFF SWITCH ("KILL SWITCH") TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT, AT SPEED, TO REGAIN THROTTLE CONTROL. IT EXHIBITED THE SAME BEHAVIOR AS RIDER RODE THE BIKE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED DUCATI HAS ISSUED (AT LEAST AN INFORMAL) NOTICE OF A FAULTY THROTTLE SENSOR PART THAT CAN CAUSE UNCONTROLLED THROTTLE (SPEED) PROBLEMS IN THIS MODEL YEAR. HOWEVER, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. IF RIDER HAD BEEN IN ANOTHER TRAFFIC SITUATION, OR ON THE RACETRACK (AS RIDER USES THIS MOTORCYCLE ON THE TRACK AS WELL FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES, NOT RACING), THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A POTENTIALLY FATAL INCIDENT. RIDER WAS SUBSEQUENTLY NOTIFIED THAT THE DEALER AND DUCATI HAVE ASSESSED THE PROBLEM AND DUCATI HAS APPROVED REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY THROTTLE SYSTEM/PART. *TR

WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE FALLS OVER THE STEERING STOP WILL BEND. THIS WILL CAUSE THE FRONT BRAKE LINE TO SUBSEQUENTLY BE CRUSHED. I.E. THE BRAKE LINE NOW BECOMES THE STEERING STOP.
