2019 Ducati Hypermotard Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Pervasive known issue occurred wherein motorcycle stalls while riding and power is removed/throttle closed. Motorcycle also stalls while at stop lights. This is a safety concern as motorcycle can stall inexplicably while under way and in corners where engine power is needed to exit the corner leading user to restart engine while underway.

The motorcycle stalls after engaging the clutch when approaching a stop. This does not happen at every stop but does happen every time I ride the motorcycle. This put me at risk because other drivers around me didn't know that I needed to restart my motorcycle before I could begin moving again. The dealership said that they were unable to reproduce the issue. No one has inspected the motorcycle except for the dealer. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This started after six months after I purchased the motorcycle. This is after the first scheduled maintenance.

-ON 9/26/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 0800 HOURS, WHILE DRIVING ON THE WHITESTONE EXPY, I UP-SHIFTED INTO 3RD GEAR FROM 2ND GEAR, UPON RELEASING THE CLUTCH, THE ENGINE STALLED CAUSING THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK (I WAS TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 54 MPH). I QUICKLY PRESSED THE CLUTCH AND COASTED TO THE SHOULDER LANE (A SEMI-TRUCK WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME). UPON ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE ENGINE THE ENGINE HESITATED TO START SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN THE ENGINE FINALLY STARTED, I HELD THE CLUTCH PUTTING THE BIKE INTO 1ST GEAR AND PROCEEDED. APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET LATER THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN AND I QUICKLY PRESSED THE CLUTCH AND COASTED BACK INTO THE SHOULDER LANE!!! -ON 09/26/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 1930 HOURS, WHILE DRIVING ON THE BQE ON THE RIGHT LANE, THE BIKE WAS IN 2ND GEAR WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN!!!!! I QUICKLY PRESSED THE CLUTCH AND PRESSED THE ENGINE START BUTTON TO CONTINUE. -ON 09/26/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 2030 HOURS, WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, I PRESSED THE CLUTCH AND THE ENGINE STALLED, HESITATING TO RESTART.
