The defect: Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling various 2003-2018 Crossroads, Dutchmen, and Keystone recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V755-5127.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Keystone will notify owners and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. The defect: DUTCHMEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 INFINITY TRAVEL TRAILERS MANUFACTURED FROM FEBRUARY 4, 2011, THROUGH JUNE 30, 2011, BECAUSE THE 12 VOLT MAIN WIRING IN THE FRONT BULKHEAD COMPARTMENT IS INCORRECTLY ROUTED. ON THE ELECTRICAL BUS BAR MOUNTED TO THE BULKHEAD IN THE COMPARTMENT, ONLY THE MAIN POWER FEED FROM THE DISCONNECT SWITCH SHOULD BE CONNECTED TO THE LOWER SECTION OF THE BUS BAR. HOWEVER, THE POWER FEED LINE TO THE SOLENOID FOR THE HYDRAULIC PUMP SYSTEM IS ALSO WIRED TO THE LOWER PORTION OF THE BUS BAR. THIS CIRCUIT IS NOT PROTECTED BY AN AUTO RESET BREAKER.
The risk: IN THE EVENT OF A SHORT OR GROUND, THE UNPROTECTED CIRCUIT COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL AUTO RESET BREAKER TO THE BUS BAR AND CONNECT THE POWER FEED FOR THE HYDRAULIC PUMP SYSTEM TO THE ADDED BREAKER, WHICH WILL GIVE IT THE REQUIRED OVER CURRENT PROTECTION. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 26, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT 1-574-537-0700.

A NEW RV TRAILER WAS OBSERVED TO HAVE A PLACARD THAT STATES 7,000# GAWR WHILE IT IDENTIFIES THE TIRE SIZE AS A ST235/80R16(E) WITH THE INFLATION TO BE 80 PSI. THIS TIRE IS RATED FOR A MAXIMUM LOAD OF 3,420# AT 80 PSI.....UPDATED 03/21/12 *BF THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY DUTCHMEN APPEARS TO VIOLATE 49 CFR PART 571.120 WHICH IN S5.1.2 STATES "...THE SUM OF THE MAXIMUM LOAD RATINGS OF THE TIRES FITTED TO AN AXLE SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN THE GROSS AXLE WEIGHT RATING (GAWR) OF THE AXLE SYSTEM AS SPECIFIED ON THE VEHICLES CERTIFICATION LABEL REQUIRED BY 49 CFR PART 567.." IN FEDERAL REGISTER: DECEMBER 4, 2007 (VOLUME 72, NUMBER 232)] [RULES AND REGULATIONS] [PAGE 68441-68466], DOT IDENTIFIED THAT THE CARGO CAPACITY WAS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE BUYING DECISION. REPLACING THE LABEL WITH A LOWER GAWR WOULD MEET THE REQUIREMENTS BUT IN THE CASE OF CURRENT OWNERS IT WOULD MEAN THEY PURCHASED THE TRAILER WITH CERTAIN EXPECTATIONS OF LOAD CAPACITY BASED ON THE STATED 7,000# GAWR FOR EACH AXLE, BUT NOW WOULD DISCOVER THE TRAILER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CARRY THEIR NORMAL LOAD. I THEREFORE REQUEST THAT IN ADDITION TO REPLACEMENT OF A PROPER PLACARD THERE BE SOME PHYSICAL REMEDY PROVIDED TO MAKE THE CURRENT OWNERS WHOLE. I CAN PROVIDE A COPY OF THE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE SUBJECT PLACARD. *TR UPDATED 05/10/12
