The defect: ON CERTAIN TRAVELTRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH SUBURBAN FURNACES, THE FURNACE EXHAUST VENT MAY NOT BE PRESENT.
The risk: WHEN THE FURNACE IS IN USE THIS COULD ALLOW CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES TO VENT INTO THE TRAILER, WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE PASSENGERS.
The remedy: OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR THE PRESENCE OF THE EXHAUST VENT AND FOR HOT EXHAUST AIR ESCAPING FROM THE FURNACE EXHAUST. THE RECALL BEGAN FEBRUARY 20, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT 1-219-534-1224.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS

The defect: ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL AND TRAVEL TRAILERS, THE GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER (GFI) OUTLET WAS IMPROPERLY WIRED.
The risk: THE FAILURE OF THE GFI OUTLET TO WORK PROPERLY COULD CAUSE A PERSON USING AN ELECTRICAL DEVICE PLUGGED INTO THE GFI OUTLET TO BE EXPOSED TO AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF SUCH PERSON OR THE ELECTRICAL DEVICE COMES INTO CONTACT WITH WATER.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE OUTLETS. IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOBILE, DUTCHMEN MAY AUTHORIZE A CERTIFIED ELECTRICIAN TO PERFORM THE REPAIR AT THE SITE OF THE TRAILER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 22, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT DUTCHMEN AT 1-574-537-0700.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
