1993 Eagle Summit Transmission Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the transmission system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Transmission reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND WHERE MY CAR HAD A RECALL IN 1998 FOR THE POWER TRAIN TRANSMISSION AUTOMATIC. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, I HAVE BEEN HAVING OIL LEAKS. I HAD A HEAD GASKET REPLACED IN LATE 1999. I HAD AN OIL LEAK AGAIN THIS YEAR, IN MARCH 2001. THEY HAD TO REPAIR THE OIL DRAIN PLUG. THEN IN MAY 2001, I HAD TO GET THE MAIN SEAL VALVE FIXED. LATE JULY 2001, THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. NOW APPARENTLY THE OIL IS BURNING INSIDE THE ENGINE. IF THIS RECALL HAD BEEN DONE ON MY CAR, COULD THIS HAVE BEEN PREVENTED? CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK FOR THE MONEY THAT I HAVE SPENT, IF IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AS PART OF THE RECALL? I'M NOW AT THE POINT WHERE I HAVE TO HAVE OIL CHANGES EVERY TWO MONTHS IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE CAR UNTIL I CAN AFFORD A NEW ONE. ANY ASSISTANCE, WILL BE GREAT.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
