The defect: ON CERTAIN DOUBLE PULL BEHIND SEMI-TRAILERS WITH ROLLER CIRCLE CONVERTER DOLLY LOCKS, THE SNAP RING THAT SUSPENDS THE DOLLY LOCK PIN MAY DISLODGE ALLOWING THE PIN TO INADVERTENTLY ENGAGE IN THE DOLLY LOCK TUBE.
The risk: THE TRACTOR/TRAILER COMBINATION COULD EXPERIENCE HANDLING PROBLEMS INCLUDING TIPPING OVER OF THE TRACTOR/TRAILER COMBINATION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND INJURIES.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL CHANGE OUT THE EXISTING DOLLY LOCK PIN WITH THE SNAP RING AND WILL REPLACE IT WITH A NEW DOLLY LOCK PIN ASSEMBLY WITH A MACHINED SHOULDER FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT EAST AT 330-325-9921.

The defect: CERTAIN TRAILERS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." THESE TRAILERS WERE BUILT WITH INADEQUATELY SIZED AIR BRAKE RESERVOIRS.
The risk: THIS DOES NOT MEET THE STANDARD.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL AIR RESERVOIR CYLINDER AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT EAST MANUFACTURING AT 1-330-325-9921.

The defect: CERTAIN FLATBED, DUMP, TRUCK DOLLY, UNLOADER, FRAMELESS, AND PUP TRAILERS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." THESE VEHICLES HAVE INACCURATE WEIGHT-RELATED INFORMATION ON THE CERTIFICATION LABELS.
The risk: IF THAT INACCURATE INFORMATION IS RELIED UPON BY THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, THEN EXTRA WEIGHT LOADED ONTO A VEHICLE COULD AFFECT THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL CORRECT THE CERTIFICATION LABEL. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER 2002. Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
