1994 Fbs GTS 1000 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THE ABS FAILURE INDICATOR LIGHT LOCATED ON THE DASH BOARD GIVES NO INDICATION THAT THE ABS SYSTEM HAS FAILED. THE ONLY WAY THE RIDER CAN KNOW IS WHEN THE WHEEL LOCKS UP. AS AN EXPERIENCED RIDER, I WAS ABLE TO ASCERTAIN THAT THE ABS SYSTEM HAS FAILED.

HAVING OBSERVED A NUMBER OF REPORTED FAILURES ON THE GTS NEWSGROUP, I TESTED MY ABS BRAKES AND FOUND THAT THE REAR WHEEL LOCKS AND SKIDS WITHOUT ANY WARNING THAT THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AT THIS POINT THE BIKE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALER AS YAMAHA STATE THE ONLY REPAIR POSSIBLE IS A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS UNIT. GIVEN THE LOW MILAGE OF THE MOTORCYCLE, I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE REPORTED. YAMAHA HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER ADVISING THEM OF A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF FAILURES. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
