The defect: Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2024 FCCC MT45G, MT45, and Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.
The risk: A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will replace the steering gears, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 5, 2024. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for the recall is FL995.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
