The defect: Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 FCC XCS, XCM, XCR, XCL, XCP, XBS, XBR, and XBP trucks manufactured from January 7, 2013, through June 1, 2015. On certain motorhome chassis built with a heavier, adjustable, offset, foot pedal, the brake activation signal to certain towed devices may not deactivate when the motorhome service brakes are released.
The risk: If the brake activation signal to a towed device remains active when the motorhome chassis service brakes are released, the brakes on a towed device may remain engaged depending on brake configuration of the trailer. As a result, the brakes would drag and possibly overheat potentially resulting in a fire. Additionally, following drivers may be confused by the motorhome's actions, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will modify the affected brake assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on June 6, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's recall number for this campaign is FL-704.

POWER TRAIN

FCCC Service Bulletin for Axle Flange Gasket Replaced with O-Ring. Daimler Trucks North America has released a new axle shaft to hub rubber O-ring (part number 11-30728-000) as a replacement for the paper gasket (part number 11-14418-000). The new O-ring will provide better sealing and is reusable. It is quicker and easier to use compared to the paper gasket, because using a paper gasket requires cleaning the hub when the axle shaft is removed.

With Mascot now in partnership with Detroit Reman and Alliance Parts, DTNA is pleased to announce that Mascot coverage has been added to OWL. Remanufactured Alliance/Mascot parts include transmission, differential, steering gear, and steering pump used in an on-highway vehicle applications. The Alliance/Mascot aftermarket warranty coverage period has not changed: depending on the part, coverage is for one (1) or two (2) years and current parts, labor, and reimbursement policies apply.
