The defect: INSUFFICIENT GREASE WAS APPLIED TO THE TRAILER AXLE HUB INNER BEARING CAUSING THE BEARING TO OVERHEAT DURING TOW OPERATIONS. THE OVERHEATED BEARING CAN SEIZE TO THE AXLE SPINDLE CAUSING THE TRAILER AXLE HUB TO BREAK AT THE REAR SEAL FLANGE.
The risk: A BROKEN TRAILER AXLE CAUSES LOSS OF TRAILER CONTROL AND RESULTS IN A ACCIDENT.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE TRAILER'S AXLE HUBS AND INSPECT THE INNER BEARINGS FOR SUFFICIENT GREASE AND ALSO INSPECT ALL RELATED AXLE PARTS SUCH AS BEARING RACES AND AXLE SPINDLE FOR WEAR. THE BEARINGS WILL BE REPACKED OR REPLACED IF NECESSARY AND NEW GREASE SEALS WILL BE INSTALLED. NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE IS PRESENTED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND THE REMEDY IS NOT PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME OR THE REMEDY DOES NOT CORRECT THE DEFECT, PLEASE CONTACT FLEETWOOD FOLDING TRAILER AT 1-800-544-8193. Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
