1979 Fleetwood Taurus Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1979 Fleetwood Taurus, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

From owner reports, verbatim

THE PROPANE LINE TO THE STOVE IS 3/8 INCH COOPER AND IS EXPOSED JUST BEHIND THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL. ONE OF THE DUAL TIRES BLEW ITS TREAD AND HIT THE LINE CAUSING IT TO BE MANGLED TO THE POINT OF ALMOST BEING SEVERED. BECAUSE THE FRIG IS GAS, YOU MUST RUN WITH THE GAS LINE ON. IF THIS LINE HAD BURST, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE LIKELYHOOD OF A FIRE THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE COMPLETE LOSS OF THE RV. THIS SITUATION MUST BE CORRECTED AS ANY SORT OF DAMAGE FROM BLOWN TIRES TO ROCKS OR STICKS BEING THROWN UP COULD CAUSE THIS LINE TO RUPTURE. FLEETWOOD DECLINES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS AN OLD RV, THERE ARE MANY ON THE ROAD AND SEVERAL MODEL YEARS ARE PROBABLY EFFECTED. ACTION IS NEEDED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. MY REPAIR SHOP WILL RETROFIT A STEEL PIPE IN PLACE OF THE THIN COPPER TUBE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
