1993 Ford Club Wagon Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1993 Ford Club Wagon, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

WE DEVELOPED A LEAK IN THE STEERING SYSTEM WHICH APPEARED TO BE FROM THE STEERING BOX. THE MECHANIC WHO ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE LEAK CHANGED THE HOSES AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. TWO DAYS LATER THE STEERING WAS STILL LEAKING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO THEN SAID THAT THE SYSTEM WAS BURPING DUE TO AIR IN THE LINE OR THAT THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING BOX SEALS, WHICH HE COULD REPLACE. WE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND AN ARTICLE IN "CAR & DRIVER" APR '97 REGARDING STEERING FAILURES IN OUR VEHICLE SO WE ARE CONTACTING YOU TO SEE IF THE STEERING BOX HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY. I HEAR THAT IT IS RARE FOR STEERING BOXES TO DEVELOP LEAKS. IS THIS TRUE? NLM

FORD VAN STALLED ON INTERSTATE MOUNTAIN PASS GOING UP A GRADE ON A VERY HOT DAY. DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, THERE WAS NO SHOULDER OR TURNOUTS AND A STEEP DROP OFF THE ROAD. ONLY BY THE UNBELIEVABLE COURAGE OF TWO MEN WHO HELPED ME, WAS I SPARED INJURY OR DEATH. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT HOW TO FIX MY VAN SO THE TFI WILL NOT FAIL AGAIN. I CURRENTLY CAN REPLACE THE TFI MODULE, BUT BEING THAT IT IS STILL MOUNTED ON THE DISTRIBUTOR, THE SAME THING WILL LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN. FORD GIVES NO INFO ON HOW TO PERMANENTLY FIX THIS PROBLEM. CAN YOU HELP ME?*AK
