What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 Ford E550, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim
I PURCHASED MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE JANUARY 15, 2005. IN APRIL THAT SAME YEAR WAS THE FIRST TIME I ATTEMPTED TO START MY BRAND NEW TRUCK AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WILL CRANK BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER REGARDING THIS PROBLEM ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES AND EACH TIE THEY TELL ME THEY CAN'T FIND ANY REASON THAT IT WOULD BE DOING THIS. THE LAST TWO TIMES IT HAPPENED I RECALL THAT IT HAD BEEN RAINING IN MY AREA SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS A FACTOR OR NOT BUT THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS JUST BEFORE THANKSGIVING 2006. *NM

Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO STALL. THE DEALER REPLACED 4 FUEL INJECTORS, 2 OIL LINES, AND 2 OIL PUMPS. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS UNSURE HOW TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE IN GEAR, WHETHER ACCELERATING OR NOT.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
