What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2018 Ford F-250 Sd, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW, AND IT HAS NEVER EXPERIENCED THE DEATH WOBBLE UNTIL DEC.25, 2024. THE TRUCK NOW HAS ONLY 45K MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND HIT A ROUGH PATCH IN THE ROAD AT 70 MPH, AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO VIBREATE AND SHAKING, MY SON WAS IN THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME AND SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE CAB WAS GOING TO FALL OFF IT WAS SHAKING SO BAD. i HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO TWO RIVERS FORD DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT THE ISSUE. I JUST WANTED TO REPORT IT AS WELL SO THERE IS A RECORD OF THE ISSUE.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
I loaned my F250 to my son to move his furnishings from his apartment in Chicago back to Iowa. Once he got on the interstate, the truck began to shake violently causing him to feel he would lose control of the vehicle. The only way to stop it was to pull over and stop the vehicle. This could have resulted in severe injury or worse. I am beyond furious, upset and am going to escalate this known problem in any way I can including media watchdogs, social media, etc. After a short search on the web, I find out it is a known defect but nothing has been done by Ford or your organization. My truck had 12,000 miles on it…nothing should be worn out and in no way should there have been a safety danger to my son by driving it. I would like communication from your organization immediately as Ford tells me it is up to you to issue a recall and you have not done so. This is unconscionable in every possible way.
Driving at approximately 70 mph I traversed over a road divider of a suspension type bridge and immediately encounter the so called “Death Wobble” in my entire front end steering mechanism. The vehicle and steering wheel vibrated so violently that it caused a lane excursion. Applying brakes and slowing to 30 mph the steering came under control. This is the (3) third incident of this happening to my vehicle.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
Low fuel pressure alert came on the truck. It went away and then came on again a few days later. We took the truck to Joe Meyers Ford in Houston, TX. They verified the code/alert and replaced the fuel filter, then re-tested. The alert returned and once they continued their diagnosis, it was determined that the fuel pressure control valve had failed, allowing fuel, DEF, and water into the fuel filter. The fuel pressure would no increase to minimum spec of 55 psi. Ford then said that without replacing the Fuel Pressure Control Valve, Fuel pump, fuel filters, and flushing all the lines, the risk for the engine to seize up was very likely. They noted this was a similar issue happening to 2020 and older trucks, but all the same parts and issues. Upon repairing the truck, we have read up on recall 24V957 and feel the issues we encountered are identical in complexity and costs. We paid nearly $20,000 in repairs.
100k miles and the high pressure fuel pump is failed. Created small metal particles that got into fuel lines. Everything needs to be replaced. There’s a recall on over 80k trucks with the same issue. Local ford said this is the same issue as all the recalls but because we don’t have the recall on our VIN, we have to pay $20k for replacement.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250 SD. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera image was blank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rearview camera had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V644000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the rear-view camera was blurry. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle the rear-view image was blurry. There was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
Truck started loosing power And caught fire at the red light
Fuel pump faulted, engine would just cut off in middle of driving whether on highway, street, or interstate. Engine would randomly shut off. Took to ford dealership, they had to replace low pressure and high pressure fuel pumps, the dealership says this model is notorious for that, the fuel pumps tear apart and send metal into the fuel rail. This caused the truck to not get diesel and shut off. An extreme safety issue. Several times it happened while driving, and nothing prepared you for it to happen. Just saw where models I believe starting with 2020 have been recalled for same issue. Don’t understand why 18 models weren’t.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Transmission just went out no tell tale signs or anything.
I was driving down the highway when the truck started shaking vigorously I could not control it. I went into another lane as I could finally push the break hard enough to stop. I checked for a recall. There is a recall for the Radial damper, but my Vin number is not covered under this and my dealership refuses to fix this. I also read there is a class action lawsuit regarding the death wobble, which is what I think is happening with my truck when I read the description of the issue. I need this vehicle added to the recall list so I can take it to the dealership and have repaired.
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
Our 2108, Ford F-250, Lariat model with extended cab, the sunroof brackets (plastic) broke and the sunroof can not be opened or closed, and became loose. The brackets that hold the glass in place are made of plastic and they deteriorated to the point where they would no longer hold the glass in place. This is possibly a safety concern as the glass may detach from the roof and cause injury in the cab, or possibly fly off and impact oncoming vehicles or vehicles behind the F250. These brackets should not be made of plastic due to the very large glass sunroofs weight. This is a known problem as indicated by many others on youtube.com, and other online website postings. Our F250 was taken into our local Ford dealership service department and upon inspection the tech indicated that both sides of the plastic arm brackets were broken and the window was non-operable. As per technicians official vehicle report it required replacement of FL3Z 1651070 E :GUIDE. Cost was $945.47 to replace plastic brackets which will more than likely break again after minimal strain due to the heavy weight of the glass sunroof.
The driver's side rear door locks freeze, and once the door is opened it will not stay closed/latched. I have a video of the door not latching shut, and bouncing back open when attempting to close it. This is the same issue as outlined in Customer Satisfaction Program 18N03; however, the dealer and Ford Corporate advised my VIN is not included on the recall for this issue. When the door lock is frozen and the door will not shut, the automatic running board on the driver's side will not close and the light on the bottom of the driver's mirror and inside the vehicle stays on. If you hold the door shut with your hand or put a ratchet strap on it to hold it in place, the running board closes and the lights go off. This is unsafe for passengers of the rear of the vehicle as the door will not latch when frozen. This issue has been witnessed by the local dealership, but they tell me the VIN is not on the recall list for this issue. Attached pictures show the door closed but running board out and mirror side light on, holding door shut and running board in and side light off, and door ajar when trying to close it and it not latching.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the instrument cluster failed to function as intended. The contact stated the instrument cluster failed to activate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed central processing unit. The contact was informed that the central processing unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Leaving stop sign turning right onto cross street. Touched accelerator pedal and truck lurched forward under what seemed to be full throttle. (Unintended Acceleration) Jammed on the brake pedal stopping vehicle. Engine still revs still high and rear tire started to squeal/spin on pavement. Grabbed shifter and threw into park then immediately grabbed key and turned vehicle off. Upon restart normal operation resumed. No mats in area of accelerator pedal. No ODBC error codes. Did not have foot on both pedals. Scheduled to go to dealer for investigation.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
With a 5th wheel plugged in and in tow the trailer brake module failed. There were no trailer brakes while pulling the trailer. This made driving extremely dangerous as the trailer weighs 15,000 lbs. and I only had the truck brakes working.
While driving the vehicle out of the garage the brakes locked up. The vehicle would travel only a couple feet in forward or reverse before it came to a halt. The vehicle needed to be towed to the dealership. Had this vehicle been on a highway the failure of the braking system causing it to come to halt could have caused a catastrophic accident.

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
This particular truck has heated front seats. While I was driving today 2/18/2022 at about 2:35pm the passenger heated seat was on and the seat caught on fire. The seat was empty and nothing was on the seat. I looked over and there were flames coming from the seat. A hole about a quarter in size was burned in my seat.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the tailgate opened intermittently without warning. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V864000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The dealer was notified, and the vehicle was repaired under the recall. The contact stated that soon after the recall was serviced, the failure recurred. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and filed a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 25,224.

From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while the vehicle is in reverse, the rearview camera continuously displayed a white blur, obscuring the camera view. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V808000 (Exterior Lighting) and 22V644000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. Part distribution disconnect.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON ALL THE NEW FORD F-250 TRUCKS ARE DANGEROUS TO EVERYONE THAT HAS TO SHARE THE ROAD WITH THESE BIG TRUCKS. I CAN SPOT ONE FROM A MILE AWAY BECAUSE I'M SUDDENLY BLINDED BY THE FOUR SUPER BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS AND THEN SOME IDIOT HAVE THERE FOG LIGHTS ON ALSO. I HAVE NEARLY RAN OFF THE ROAD MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN MEETING THESE TRUCKS ONCOMING. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO MAKE FORD FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM?

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
I WAS CLEANING MY 2018 FORD F250 WINDSHIELD IN MY GARAGE WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER WIPER ARM FELT LOOSE. I WENT OVER TO CHECK THE DRIVERS SIDE AND GAVE IT A WIGGLE AND NOTICED THAT THE KEY WAY FELL OUT FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WIPER ARM WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE SHAFT TO MAKE YOUR WIPERS MOVE. I THEN WENT BACK OVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE A NOTICED THE KEY WAY LAYING ON SHROUD AT THE BASE OF THE WIPER ARM.
