What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Ford F-250, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
2010 F250 repeatably experienced violent shaking of the front wheels and steering at highway speeds (commonly referred to as "death wobble"). This shaking has been so violent that I had no control of the vehicle steering and had to abruptly brake and slow to a near stop in 75 mph traffic! Vehicle has 71K miles and has been very well maintained and garage kept (single owner). Substantial repairs have been made to replace steering dampener, track bar, drag link, and steering gear. Technician explained that all of these parts were severely damaged from the death wobble.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was play in the steering wheel. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20E090000 (Steering, Suspension, Equipment). The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

I have a 2010 Ford,F250 Super Duty 4wd. After hitting a "transition" bump on a feeder road to a hiway I encountered violent shaking of my front end. I was accelerating to hiway speed of 70mph but I was almost forced off the road at 60 so I slowed to 50mph. The front end was still shaking so I pulled over to inspect the wheels because it felt like they were loose. Nothing was obvious so I got back on the freeway and could not drive over 40 then. Even still it shook. I was about 60 miles from home on Saturday. I took the truck to my local shop and he informed me that it was the "death wobble"! I was unaware of this "safety issue" until then. There were 3 components on the front end that were replaced and the cost was $811.50!! There were no warning lights or buzzers before the incident and if I was not a cautious driver I would have certainly run off the road and, or, injured. No photos were taken or police reports but I do have an invoice. I feel something should be done about this especially if Ford is aware of the issue. If safety is a concern of theirs, they certainly do not live up to it! Along with the money and stress it is costing people. Ive called Ford CS and they told me there's nothing they can do.

WE HAVE A 2010 FORD F250 SUPERDUTY DIESLE WITH APPROX 105K MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE CITY HIGHWAY (ROUTE 15 SOUTH IN WILLIAMSPORT, PA) AT APPROXIMATELY 64 MPH I WAS ON A BRIDGE THAT THE ROAD TURNED SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT TO MERGE INTO ANOTHER HIGHWAY AND WHEN I HIT THE EXPANSION JOINT THE TRUCK STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE OUT OF CONTROL BOUNCING THE TRUCK TOWARD THE RAIL GUARD. I APPLIED THE BREAKS TO SLOW THE TRUCK DOWN. IT TOOK ALL THE STREGNTH I HAD IN MY ARMS TO KEEP THE TRUCK ON THE ROAD. WHEN AT APPROX 35MPH THE SHAKING FINALLY SUBSIDED. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN OUR TRUCK. MY HUSBAND HAS EXPERIENCED IT A FEW TIMES. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THERE IS A FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 18-2268 FOR THIS AND IT IS BEING CALLED THE DEATH WOBBLE. WE ARE TAKING OUR TRUCK IN TOMORROW TO BE SERVICED AT OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER, BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A FORD RECALL. EVERYTHING I AM READING ONLINE IS POINTING TO A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING LINKAGE DAMPER/ADJUST ASSEMBLY AND CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE AXLE AND THE BEARINGS IN THE HUB ASSEMBLY. BELOW ARE THE PART NUMBERS THAT ARE LISTED IN THE FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 18-2268: PART NUMBERDESCRIPTIONQUANTITY HC3Z-3E651-D STEERING LINKAGE DAMPER1 5C3Z-3B440-EEE 1 ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY2 5C3Z-3B440-DDD 3/4 ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY2 5C3Z-3B440-CCC 1/2 ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY2 5C3Z-3B440-BBB 1/4 ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY2 F2TZ-3A049-A CASTLE NUT2 W525288-S437 COTTER PIN2 I REALLY FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH FORD AND PUT IN AS A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. PLEASE BE PROACTIVE TO SAVE LIVES.

TRAVELING ON I-15 FREEWAY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, GOING 70 MPH ON CRUISE. HEAD A LOUD "BANG", PULLED OVER AND SAW DAMAGE TO UNDERSIDE OF VEHICLE AND FLUIDS LEAKING. TRANSFER CASE APPEARED TO BE SPLIT OPEN. TOWED TO MOJAVE FORD DEALERSHIP IN BARSTOW CALIFORNIA, WHERE REPAIRS WERE MADE. DESCRIPTION OF FINDINGS IS ATTACHED BELOW. PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE ORIGINATED IN THE 4WD SYSTEM. TRUCK WAS IN 2WD IN THE CAB, HOWEVER VACUUM HUBS WERE IN 4WD. MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD TRUCKS. NO RECALL ON FILE. POST REPAIR, THE TRUCK STILL STAYS IN 4WD WHEN REVERTING TO 2WD FROM THE CAB. OPERATOR IS REQUIRED TO MANUALLY PUT HUBS INTO 2WD.
SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FROM 2010 TO CURRENT I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AND A TRANSMISSION OVERFLOW RELIEF VALVE. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS KEEP POPPING THE STUDS WHICH ALLOWS FUMES INSIDE THE TRUCK UPON A $2000.00 BILL EVERY TIME... THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE THE WHOLE EXHAUST SYSTEM TO FALL RIGHT OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK WHILE DRIVING. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE TRANS OVERFLOW....EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS IT SPITS THE FLUID OUT ALL OVER THE EXHAUST WHICH CAUSES A FIRE EVERYTIME. I HAVE BEEN REPORTING THESE PROBLEMS SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE TRUCK.THESE PROBLEMS NEED TO BE ADRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR WORSE.

IN SEPTEMBER OF 2015 THE HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN THE TAIL GATE WE WERE PULLING OUR 5TH WHEEL CAMPER. WE WERE ABLE TO RAISE THE CAMPER HIGHER THAN THE TAIL GATE TO HOOK UP THE CAMPER. WE TOOK IT TO FORD IT WAS DIAGNOSIS AND SAID THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE COST WAS AROUND $278.90. WE SAW THE NEXT WE WERE CAMPING IN THE SAME CAMP GROUND AFTER OUR REPAIRS WERE MADE ANOTHER FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY NOT SURE WHAT YEAR IT WAS BUT IT LOOKED AS IF IT WAS A 2010 THE OWNER WAS ALSO HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE TAIL GATE OPEN ON HIS TRUCK BUT HE WAS HAULING A TAG ALONG CAMPER. IS THERE ANY RECALL PROBLEMS WITH THE TAIL GATES ON THESE TRUCKS. THIS WAS AT 80331 MILES. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TRACK BAR AND TRACK BAR BALL JOINT AND DRAG LINK . WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE F SERIES SUPER DUTY. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS. THIS WAS DONE IN JUNE OF 2017 WITH 100778 MILES. WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP THE FRONT END WOULD SHAKE SO BAD THAT YOU HAD TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHT AND LET THE TRUCK SLOW DOWN BY ITSELF. IT HAPPENED AT A LOW SPEED AND AT 70 MPH WITH ME ONE DAD IT FELT LIKE THE FRONT WHEELS WERE GOING TO BOUNCE RIGHT OFF THE TRUCK AND VERY SCARY FOR A WOMEN I WAS AFRAID TO PUT ON THE BRAKES SO IT WAS A RUFF RIDE TILL IT SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH TO STOP THE SHAKING. THIS WAS AT A COST OF$1,133.32. IT WOULD BE NICE TO GET A FEED BACK ON THIS INFORMATION IF POSSIBLE. [XXX]THANK YOU, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
