What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1994 Ford Grand Marquis, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ON APRIL 17, 2003, MY 1994 MERCURY GRAND MARQUEE, WHICH WE HAD PURCHASED ABOUT 8 MONTHS PREVIOUS, STARTED ON FIRE IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE AND THEN BROKE THE GAS LINE TO THE WATER HEATER. THE FIRE BROKE OUT AT 2 AM AND THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE SINCE 5:30 PM THE EVENING BEFORE. MY ADDRESS AT THAT TIME WAS 1345 SUE BARNETT HOUSTON TX 77018. THE HOME WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND OUR CAT DIED IN THE FIRE. *LA

DT: CONSUMER HAD A 1994 FORD GRAND MARQUIS. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE ON JULY 8, 2005 INSIDE OF GARAGE. CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES TO AN HOUR BEFORE THE FIRE STARTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT PRIOR TO THIS. IN MAY, THE BRAKES WERE WORKED ON BECAUSE THEY WERE MUSHY. THE BROWNSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND INSURANCE COMPANY LOOKED INTO WHY THE FIRE OCCURRED, AND THEY AGREED IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, AND THE GARAGE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT DID RESPOND AND ISSUED A REPORT. THE CONSUMER WAS HAVING TO STAY WITH HER SON UNTIL THE DAMAGE WAS FIXED AT HOME.*AK

CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE EXAMINED BECAUSE OF HEARING OF THE RECENT NEWS REPORTS OF THE FORD VEHICLES THAT ARE PRONE TO GAS TANK RUPTURE AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE AND EXPLOSION IN HIGH IMPACT COLLISIONS. CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS FOUND TO HAVE THE SAME DEFECTS AS THE POLICE VEHICLES. FORD HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT RECALLED ANY OF THE CIVILIAN VEHICLES. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE FORD TO REIMBURSE THE MONIES PAID FOR THE EXAMINATION. *JG
