FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

The defect: THE LABELS REMINDING OPERATORS CLOSING THE FUEL TANK CROSSOVER VALVES TO REOPEN THE VALVES BEFORE OPERATING THE ENGINES WERE OMITTED. IF THE TANKS ARE OVER HALF FULL AND VEHICLE OPERATION WAS RESUMED WITHOUT REOPENING THE FUEL TANK CROSS-OVER VALVES, PRESSURE COULD BUILD IN ONE OF THE TANKS.
The risk: PRESSURE BUILD-UP COULD RESULT IN RUPTURE OF A FUEL TANK AND SPILLING DIESEL FUEL, WHICH CAN CAUSE A FIRE.
The remedy: OWNERS WILL BE MAILED A PAIR OF LABELS AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. IF THE OWNER PREFERS, A DEALER CAN INSTALL THE LABELS.

3/19/04 PART # 3146 FAILED, THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS PART HAS FAILED ON TWO DIFFERENT TRUCKS (HEAVY DUTY TRACTORS ) WE CALLED FORD AND THEY COULD CARE LESS WE SOLD OUR HEAVY TRUCK DIVISION THEY TOLD US. I PUT A COMPLAINT IN TO FORD THREE YEARS AGO I EVEN TALKED TO ONE OF THIER ENGINEERS ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME ON IT THEY NEVER DID, THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS FAILURE ARE CATASTROPHIC ON THE HIGHWAY. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE PART I HAVE ALL THREE PARTS. AFTER WE CALLED FORD I CALLED NHTSA AND PUT IN A COMPLAINT, EVEN E-MAILED YOU, I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING AS OF YET, TODAY I CALLED AND I WAS SENT TO THIS SITE. *LA
