2015 Forest River Cherokee Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

trailer bolts and nuts dont hold trailer on and break off. Cab of trailer is moving on frame and cab can come off of frame while driving. I have several of these model trailers and they all have the same problem. In addition, ive ask other owners of these trailers and they also have the same problem.

The contact owns a 2015 Forest River Cherokee travel trailer. The contact stated that rainwater leaked into the RV through the side panels and passenger's side sliding door. The rainwater leaked from the passenger's side sliding door and spread into the master bedroom causing water damage to the floor. Additionally, the passenger's side sliding door was inoperable. The dealer was made aware of the failure and had an associate inspect the travel trailer. The dealer informed the contact to bring the travel trailer in for diagnostic testing. The travel trailer was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.

CAMPER FURRION DV3100 STEREO SAFETY HAZARD. THE CAMPER WAS STATIONARY AND IN USE AT A NYS PARK WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THIS RADIO FAILURE RESULTED IN ONE OF THE STEREO CHANNELS OUTPUTTING PURE DC POWER TO THE SPEAKER SHORTING THE SPEAKER OUT. THE RESULTING POWER DISSIPATION CAUSED THE SPEAKER CASE TO BEGIN MELTING. IF LEFT UNCHECKED OR UNATTENDED THIS MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VEHICLE FIRE. LUCKILY FOR US WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS THE STEREO SQUEALS LIKE A PIG SO IT WOULD BE SHUT OFF AND WE NEVER LEAVE OUR CAMPER WITH ACCESSORIES ON. I AM AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER AND HAVE A FULL FAILURE INVESTIGATION AVAILABLE WITH DETAILED MEASUREMENTS, PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS. THIS FAILURE INITIALLY OCCURRED SHORTLY AFTER THE CAMPER PURCHASE, BUT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY SPEAKER BY THE DEALERSHIP. I REPLACED THE LAST SPEAKER PERSONALLY AND WAS APPALLED AT MY FINDINGS AND INVESTIGATED FURTHER TO DETERMINE ROOT CAUSE. I CONTACTED FURRION AND WORKED THROUGH MY INVESTIGATION WITH THEM MAKING SURE THEY WERE AWARE OF ALL OF MY FINDINGS.THE RADIO MANUFACTURER DID NOT SEEM INTERESTED IN MAKING SURE OTHERS WERE MADE AWARE OF THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM. HENCE MY FILING OF THIS ISSUE.

WHEN I HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING IN THE TRAVEL TRAILER, AND HAVE THE HOT WATER HEATER ON USING PROPANE THE RV FILLS UP WITH CARBON MONOXIDE. IT SETS OFF BOTH MY ALARMS. I HAD A TECH LOOK AT IT BUT COULD NOT FIND OUT WHERE THE FUMES ARE COMING IN FROM. IT LOOKS LIKE A DESIGN FLORE OF THE MANUFACTURER, FOREST RIVER. SO FAR THEY HAVE BEEN NO HELP. THE UNIT IS STATIONARY IN AN RV PARK.

ONE WEEK AFTER TAKING DELIVERY OF FOREST RIVER TRAVEL TRAILER, I TOWED THE TRAVEL TRAILER TO A LAKE THAT WAS 90 MILES FROM HOME. FORTY FIVE MILES INTO THE DRIVE, AT A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF STATE HIGHWAY MN-47 THAT HAD A HUMP IN THE ROAD, THE TOW VEHICLE AND TRAILER UNDULATED CAUSING THE TRAILER TO BECOME UNHOOKED FROM THE TOW HITCH. THE TRAILER CONTINUED TO BE TOWED UNTIL I COULD GET TO A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER WITH THE TRAILER TO BE RE-HITCHED. I BROUGHT THE TRAILER TO THE DEALER AND LEFT THE TOW HITCH FOR THEIR ASSESSMENT. THE CONCLUSION WAS THAT THE CLINCH BOLT ON THE TRAILER TONGUE WAS NOT TIGHTENED ADEQUATELY FROM THE MANUFACTURER, ALLOWING THE TONGUE TO BECOME UNHITCHED FROM THE BALL HITCH. THE TRAILER TONGUE FRAME IS NOW GROUND DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY. FOREST RIVER WILL NOT REPAIR THIS INCIDENT DUE TO POSSIBLE DISBELIEF. ANOTHER COMPLAINT IS THAT THE FRAME IS SAID TO BE GALVANIZED BUT THERE ARE NUMEROUS SURFACE RUST LOCATIONS BUILDING UP WHERE SALT IS KICKED UP NEAR THE WHEEL WELLS. I HAVEN'T BOTHERED TO COMPLAIN SINCE I DIDN'T WANT TO MISS OUT ON THE FISHING SEASON AT THE TIME. IT IS NOW FISHING SEASON AGAIN AND HAVE BEEN REMINDED OF MY ISSUES.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
