1992 Geo Tracker Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1992 Geo Tracker, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I WILL NEED TO CHECK FURTHER TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL DATE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE TIRE IN QUESTION SUFFERED TREAD SEPARATION WHILE I WAS STATIONED IN SWITZERLAND WITH THE U.S. FOREIGN SERVICE AND DRIVING ON THE AUTOBAHN IN GERMANY. THE TIRES WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE CAR, WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN THE U.S. I DROVE THE CAR FROM 1993-1994 IN GUYANA, A TROPICAL COUNTRY IN SOUTH AMERICA. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION, ESPECIALLY AFTER BEING DRIVEN IN HOT CLIMATES, I DECIDED TO REPORT MY 1995 ACCIDENT. THE BLOWOUT CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR, WHICH VEERED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SLID INTO A MILEPOST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CAR NEARLY FLIPPED -- WHEN IT STRUCK THE MILEPOST IT LEANED OVER ON TWO WHEELS BEFORE SETTLING BACK ON FOUR. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE -- THERE WAS NO PROXIMATE CAUSE FOR THE TREAD SEPARATION -- AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER THERE IS ANY POSSIBLE CONNECTION TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE PROBLEMS. I WOULD ALSO APPRECIATE YOUR ADVISING ME WHETHER I SHOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER AND DEMAND COMPENSATION OF ANY KIND. THANK YOU. (TIRESIZE: P205/75R15)( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P205/75R15 )
