1999 Geo Tracker Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 Geo Tracker, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ENGINE IDLES ROUGH AND STALLS. *JB

NHTSA ID 10175543 · filed Dec 8, 2006

I HAVE ONLY OWNED MY 1999 TRACKER FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS AND HAVE HAD MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH IT. I HAD THE TIMING CHAINS AND HEAD GASKET REPLACED IN FEB DUE TO AN UNEXPLAINED OIL LEAK. I HAVE NOW BEEN INFORMED BY THE PLACE THAT DID THE OTHER ENGINE REPAIRS THAT IT NOW NEEDS A NEW OIL PUMP AND CONNECTING RODS TO THE TUNE OF 1000 DOLLARS. I HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN ANY SATISFACTION FROM CHEVY OR MY DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE AUTO. THE CAR HAS DIED AND IT WAS SHAKING AND STALLING OUT AT STOP LIGHTS AS WELL AS WHEN I WOULD BE PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE FOR ANYTHING. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE OR RELIABLE AND I AM PISSED OFF AT CHEVY AND ROCKENBACH THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THIS PIECE OF CRAP. *AK
