2009 Gulf Stream Prairie Schooner Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Our database holds 2 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2009 Gulf Stream Prairie Schooner. Each one is a report filed by an owner or driver and published by NHTSA without most of them being verified. A complaint is not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. Narratives are shown exactly as filed.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

DESPITE HAVING BEEN TOWED ONLY 3,200 MILES, THE VISA 19 ERD'S DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR OF THE INNER 2 TO 2 1/2 INCHES OF TREAD DOWN TO THE CORDS. THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE ON THE TRAILER SHOWED SIMILAR, THOUGH LESS DRASTIC WEAR. FORTUNATELY WE WERE ON A LOCAL ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED RATHER THAN INTERSTATE 95 WHERE WE WERE HEADED. PRESSURE IN THE TRAILER'S TIRES HAD BEEN CHECKED BEFORE EACH DAY'S TRAVEL TO MAINTAIN THE 50 TO 53 PSI SPECIFIED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. WE NEVER OVERLOADED THE TRAILER. FRESH, GREY AND BLACK WATER HOLDING TANKS HAD ALWAYS BEEN EMPTIED BEFORE TRAVELING. ITEMS CARRIED IN THE TRAILER HAD BEEN WEIGHED INDIVIDUALLY, TOTALED AND DISTRIBUTED WITHIN THE TRAILER (60% FORWARD OF THE AXLE AND 40% REARWARD). AT NO TIME DID THE CARGO EXCEED 605 LBS. WHICH IS ONLY 60% OF THE TRAILER'S 1018 LBS. STATED CARGO WEIGHT LIMIT. OTHER OWNERS OF 19 FT. VISAS HAVE POSTED SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE INTERNET, AND MOST HAVE POINTED TO PROBLEMS WITH THE LIPPERT 3500 GAVW AXLE. GIVEN HOW EVIDENT THE TOE OUT IS ON OUR VISA, WE MUST AGREE THAT THE AXLE IS FAULTY. THE POTENTIAL FOR BLOW OUTS, CRASHES AND DEATH OR INJURIES WARRANTS AN INVESTIGATION. *TR UPDATED 09/11/12*LJ UPDATED 09/12/2012 *JS *JS

LEFT NC SAT 9/25/2010 REACHED THE SC-GA LINE AND GASSED UP. MIDDLE TIRE PASSENGER SIDE HAD DEVELOPED BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALL. WE CHANGED IT AND CONTINUED ON THE INTERSTATE GOING TO FL. WE REACHED THE GA-FL LINE AND GASSED UP. CHECKING THE TIRES WE FOUND 3 MORE WITH BUBBLES ON THE TREAD. WE HAD ONLY 140 MILES TO REACH HOME BUT COULDN'T GO 5 MILES! WE HAD TO REPLACE ALL 6 TIRES. THE OLD TIRES WERE ST 235 80 R 16 MASTERTRACK POWER TOWING. DOT # 1KMM16A3607 ON ALL 6 TIRES. THEY WERE ON A 2009 5TH WHEEL TOYHAULER. WE PURCHASED THE RIG NEW JULY 2009 AND THE TIRES HAD LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON THEM. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
