Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Overview

Our database contains 4 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2015 Harley-Davidson Fld, most frequently naming the brakes and engine categories. 24 manufacturer communications are on file.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Brakes360.0%
  • Engine240.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE REAR MASTER CYLINDER ON SOME OF THE 2015 TRI-GLIDE TRIKES PART # 41700251 WHICH IS THE SAME REAR MASTER CYLINDER IN THE 2015 HARLEY DAVIDSON FREEWHEELER TRIKES, WHICH MY REAR BRAKE PEDAL GOES DOWN WITH NO STOPPING, WHEN THE REAR BRAKED PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. WHEN FIRST STARTING MY MOTORCYCLE WHEN COLD, THE MOTORCYCLE WILL SPUTTER AND TRY TO STALL. BECAUSE OF THIS, SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE TURNING THE MOTORCYCLE TRIES TO STALL. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO ALMOST CRASH SEVERAL TIMES. I TOOK THE MOTORCYCLE TO A HARLEY DAVISDON DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND I WAS ADVISED TOO LET THE MOTORCYCLE RUN FOR ABOUT 2-3 MINUTES AFTER FIRST STARTING THE MOTORCYCLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SERIOUS DEFECT.

WHILE RIDING THE BIKE I HEARD AN UNUSUAL METAL NOISE LOOKED DOWN TO DISCOVER REAR BRAKE ROD DISCONNECTED FROM REAR BRAKE PEDDLE. CLEVIS PIN AND COTTER APPARENTLY DROPPED OFF THE BIKE. WHEN I WENT TO TAP THE BRAKE PEDDLE IT WAS SWINGING FREELY. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO SAFELY BRING THE BIKE TO A HALT. DEALER REPLACED MISSING PIN.

WHILE RIDING THE BIKE I HEARD AN UNUSUAL METAL NOISE (EVER SO SLIGHT NEXT TO THE SOUND OF THE BIKE) LOOKED DOWN TO DISCOVER REAR BRAKE ROD DISCONNECTED FROM REAR BRAKE PEDDLE. CLEVIS PIN AND COTTER APPARENTLY DROPPED OFF THE BIKE. WHEN I WENT TO TAP THE BRAKE PEDDLE, TO STOP THE BIKE, IT WAS HORIZONTAL TO THE PAVEMENT AND COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. BLACK WIDOW H-D PUT A 1/4 X 1" BOLT - WASHER - WASHER - NUT [WITH LOCTITE] ON IT AND ORDERED A REPLACEMENT PIN. SECONDARY PROBLEM IS AN OVERWHELMING ODOR OF UN-BURNED GASOLINE THAT FILLS THE GARAGE WITHIN MINUTES OF PARKING THE BIKE, I HAVE SMELT THE GASOLINE WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT AS WELL. I HAVE NOW MADE THE ISSUE KNOW TWICE FIRST TIME TO NAPLES HD (AT THE 1,000 MILE SERVICE) AND SECONDARILY TO BLACK WIDOW HD (ON 10/19/15). I AM GOING TO PURCHASE A METER THAT I CAN COLLECT INFORMATION REGARDING THE RAW GASOLINE IN THE AIR INSIDE THE SPACE WHERE THE BIKE IS PARKED. AS GASOLINE IS A WELL KNOWN CARCINOGEN.....UPDATED 12/02/15 *BF; UPDATED 4/24/18*JB UPDATED 05/17/18*JB
