2009 Harley-Davidson Flhtcuh Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

UNABLE TO APPLY FRONT BRAKE LEVER. LEVER COULD NOT BE COMPRESSED RESULTING IN COMPLETE LOSS OF FRONT BRAKES. THIS OCCURRED WHILE BAKE WAS IN MOTION HOWEVER WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP WITH REAR BAKE ONLY. DEALER IN TEMECULA DIAGNOSED AS FAILED ABS HCU UNIT, NOT RELATED TO DEFECTIVE COMPONENT OR OTHER MANUFACTURING FLAW. JUST RECENTLY SAW AN ARTICLE INDICATING THAT THIS MAY BE A MORE WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY SEEMS HIGH AS ABS UNITS SHOULD NOT FAIL AN IF A FAILURE DOES OCCUR SHOULD BE SOME FORM OF FAILSAFE BACKUP.

THROTTLE GOES INTO 'LIMP MODE'. IN AUGUST OF 2013 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WHEN THE 'CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' CAME ON. I COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE. IN AUGUST OF 2014 I LOST THE THROTTLE WHEN I WAS DOING 30 MPH. BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE BIKE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTE, THEN I WOULD HAVE THROTTLE USAGE. ON 9/17/14 THE SAME THING HAPPENED . I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS TIME IT TOOK ALMOST AN HOUR FOR THE THROTTLE TO COME BACK. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED AT THE HARLEY DEALER ON 9/25. IN ONLINE FORUMS I'VE NOTED MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE THROTTLE GOING INTO 'LIMP MODE'. MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE OR THE 'ECM'. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
