Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2013 Harley-Davidson Flhx, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHX. WHILE RIDING AT 55 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE FRONT BRAKE LEVER; HOWEVER, THE BRAKE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WHILE STILL ATTEMPTING TO SLOW THE MOTORCYCLE DOWN WITH THE FRONT BRAKE. THE FRONT BRAKE SUDDENLY ACTIVATED, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BE THROWN FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED LEFT BIG TOE, A FRACTURED LEFT LEG, AND A FRACTURED LEFT KNEE CAP, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED TO SEMINOLE HARLEY-DAVIDSON (620 HICKMAN CIR, SANFORD, FL 32771, (407) 328-1212), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
FRONT BRAKE BECOMES HARD AND CANNOT SQUEEZE TO STOP. FLUID HAS BEEN CHANGED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE EVERY TWO YEARS. THIS FIRST OCCURRED WHILE OPERATING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THIS MODEL IS EQUIPPED WITH ABS. I BELIEVE THERE IS A STICKY VALVE IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. A STANDARD BRAKING SYSTEM WITHOUT ABS WOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

From owner reports, verbatim
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHX MOTORCYCLE. WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE CLUTCH WAS ENGAGED TO START THE ENGINE, THE MOTORCYCLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO ENGAGE THE START SWITCHES SEVERAL TIMES TO ENGAGE ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AND THE MOTORCYCLE DECELERATED. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED THAT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE; HOWEVER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE, THE TWIST GRIP SENSOR, AND THE SPEED SENSOR. THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
